Prerequisites:

  1. Proficiency in reading or a grade of "C" or better in ENG 095
  2. An ASSET score of 38 or better in elementary algebra or an ASSET score of 30 or better in intermediate algebra or a grade of "C" or better in MAT 070.

Corequisites: None

Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to computers and computing. Topics include the impact of computers in society, ethical issues, and hardware/software applications, including spreadsheets, databases, word processors, graphics, the Internet, and operating systems. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and function of computers and use the computer to solve problems.

Course Attendance:

Per CFCC policy, missing 20% of the classes will result in automatic failure. Upon reaching 6 ½ absences (12.8 hours), they will be dropped from the course with a grade of "NC". Absences seriously disrupt students’ progress in a class and diminish the quality of group interaction. Students are expected to punctually attend all lecture and laboratory sessions in the courses for which they are registered. Late arrivals and/or early departures may count toward total absences in classes.
