When the image of the Valdore from Nemesis was first revealed many people(including myself) thought it looked too similar to a Klingon Bird of Prey. The wings with their detailed feather design, the bulbous engineering section, the long neck with a small head at the end and the fierce looking wing mounted weapons are all tradmarks of the Bird of Prey first seen in The Search for Spock. The image above was my rough attempt at making the ship look more Romulan. I'd hoped we would be seeing the old TNG Warbird design in Nemesis, but was dissapointed, so I added some of its features to the Valdore. The smaller, more functional looking nacelles, Romulan-style wing designs, more windows and the instantly identifiable beak. This ship is probably a bit larger than the Valdore judging by the rows of windows.
Having seen Nemesis and gotten used to the design of the Valdore and its association with the Romulans, I've developed a fondness for it, but it still would have been nice to see the previous Warbird design in action on the big screen. |
