Yes, I already know this is not an English class. That doesn't change the fact that cross-curriculum reinforncement is part of our work. The fact remains that students see school subjects as totally separate and discrete issues when all classes are highly related and vocabulary is one of the major links. Even more, I did not become a teacher to promote trade-tech but to prepare students for four year college entry. A four year degree is one of the most astounding blessings and mirracles of my life and I would like to help other students experience this blessing in their life too. I am therefore keenly aware that normed gate-keeper tests such as the SAT are highly dependent on a student's overal vocabulary level. On a more practical level, additionally, students with growing vocabularies are a pleasure to work with and learn math more easily than students with weak vocabularies. The following material is provided to help students get started on life-long vocabulary acquisition, enjoyable language engagement and thought.
