Fort Lauderdale Charter School Puts Summer Reading On CD -- Free CD is offered to S. Florida Families
Downtown Academy, a charter school in Fort Lauderdale, has issued a “Summer Reading Take Home CD” to its students. When students are finished with this CD, they can come to the school and pick up additional CDs for summer reading. This CD is available at no charge to the first 500 parents who want to pick it up. The pick up points are given at www.Pat-Harris.com and at www.ResolveToHeal.com. We hope that all parents in Broward and Dade counties will be using this CD to share the wonders of the Internet safely with their children. It is believed that Downtown Academy is one of the first middle schools in South Florida to send a CD home with students as part of its Summer Reading program. (Google search "summer reading middle schools CD" brought up no Florida schools) The CD can be viewed on a computer with Windows Media Player. The CD contains mp3 audio files of Great Speeches, such as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech about “I Have A Dream.” Parents are encouraged to ask their children to put this speech on their iPods (mp3 players) and listen closely. The second Take Home CD has mp3 files from Science Friday for students to hear about interesting developments in science and technology. The free CD can be picked up at four charter schools that are using this CD developed at Downtown Academy of Technology and Art, a middle school in downtown Fort Lauderdale. "While supplies last" -- 500 additional copies have been printed to share this CD with other families.
