How to Upload a Document

Here are some simple steps to get your lessons and primary source papers online to your GeoCities portfolios:

  1. The easiest way is to create the documents on Word and then save them as a webpage. To do this, simply go to FILE then scroll down to SAVE AS, and scroll down to SAVE AS A WEB PAGE.

  1. IMPORTANT STEP: YOUR FILENAME MUST NOT HAVE ANY SPACES OR OTHER CHARACTERS OTHER THAN LETTERS OR NUMBERS. So you might call the lesson “Caesarlesson” or simply “Caesar” (without the quotes, of course). Note where you are saving the file.

  1. Then after you log on, open up Page Builder on Geocities.

  1. Under FILE, scroll down to UPLOAD FILES AND IMAGES or you can get there via FILE MANAGER.

  1. Go to BROWSE and look for your file and click UPLOAD.

  1. On your home page, add some text that says what the document is about, like “Caesar Lesson Plan.”

  1. Highlight that text  and go to LINK and scroll down to MY FILE. Go to CHOOSE and look for the new document and click on it.

  1. SAVE your document and you’re done!

  1. Preview and amaze your friends.

NOTE: This is the easiest way to get files on your site. However, if you do this, you’ll need to go back to Word to do any editing and simply reload the file. The new file will overwrite the old one if the name is the same. All other editing on your site can be done with Geocities PageBuilder.
