† Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel. When seen by clairvoyants, chakras appear as wheel-like vortices of energy within the human aura. In both Oriental yoga and Western magical theory, chakras are energy centers which exist for the purpose of absorbing from the cosmos, transforming and distributing the Universal Life Force. Visualizations of the chakras use both different colors and different energy patterns depending on the system used and the desired effect of the visualization.

  • 7. Above the top of the head is the crown chakra. It is only activated once all the other chakras are in balance, and brings forth spiritual illumination and cosmic consciousness.
  • 6. The brow chakra is associated with both the pineal gland and the pituitary gland. It is in the center of the head between the eyebrows and is also referred to as the Third Eye. It is responsible for increased psychic ability and imagination.
  • 5. The throat chakra is concerned with speech, communication, and the search for truth and creativity.
  • † 4. The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest and governs the heart, the blood and the circulatory system. It is through this chakra that unconditional love is radiated.

Centering

What we usually just refer to as "centering" is about the clearing, opening and balancing of our chakras. We also work through the chakras to clear and balance our auras.

We work through the chakras, visualizing them in our mind's eyes, starting at the single-funnel of the first chakra, moving up through the second through sixth (which each have both a front and rear aspect), and ending with the seventh (which again has only a single aspect).

We visualize spinning each funnel/chakra clockwise (as we look at our bodies from the outside), the funnel-lengths extending out from the body the same distances, the larger ends the same diameter and the speed of their spin the same as well -- hence the "balancing" of the exercise -- the importance of the exercise being to bring each and every chakra into the same condition as the others.

There is no "correct" spin-rate, distance from the body or diameter of the chakra "mouth" -- Trust your intuition.

To explain a little: Starting with the first chakra, I breathe in slowly through my nose and mentally "stir" its funnel-mouth quickly clockwise with a mental finger while visualizing my aura filling and being infused with bright red.

Breathing out through my mouth, I pour any "excess" red out into the world around me. I continue on the first chakra until I feel my aura is red enough (subjective, I know). I then move up to my second chakra, stir both aspects quickly as I breathe in and fill my aura with a good, solid orange, adding it to the red of the first chakra, then breathe any excess color out through my mouth. And so on up through the white/lavender of my seventh chakra.

I then visualize that I achieve a sense of mental balance, holding each and all chakras in their open, spinning, colorful state, my aura suffused with all the colors, and slowly open my eyes and look out on my surroundings through this heightened state of calm.

I find that my posture improves during and after these exercises and for awhile afterwards, and with deliberation and balance, I then move on to my next chosen task.
