Who are you?

Currently Teaching the Truth is run by one person only, William Dicks. However, there are six of us (3 married couples) that get together once a week for Biblical studies and theological discussions in order to chart our path forward. My dream is for Teaching the Truth to grow into a ministry that is not defined by me, but by a group of men submitted to God and His Word, willing to teach the truth of God's Word.

I am married to a wonderful wife, Charlaine, and together we have two beautiful children, Nicole (born 1995) and Jason (born 1997).

This is not a full time ministry for me, so I add to the website as I write new articles from what I have read or from Bible Studies I have done.

I am a computer software developer, developing in the C++ programming language on Windows platforms. I used to work on computer security software that includes data protection via encryption. However, I am now working on GSM SIM cards and applications to access or change SIM cards.

Which church do you attend?

My family and I are currently attending the Hatfield Christian Church in Pretoria, South Africa. However, I have built up ties with the Constantia Reformed Baptist Church in Constantia, Pretoria.

This is a reformed ministry. Meaning that this ministry is Calvinist (believing in the five points of the acronym TULIP; see below). You can also see more in our statement of faith.

U   -    Unconditional Election

L   -    Limited Atonement

I     -    Irresistible grace

P   -    Perseverance of the elected saints

How did this ministry start?

Through a long time of studying God's word and realizing how far many in the church have drifted from the truth of the Bible, I felt that there was a need for Biblically based teachings to be taught in the church. Obviously, there are many ministries out there doing the same, however, I believe that God is raising up a people to do just that all over the world. I also felt that teaching God's word via the internet would be an easy way to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to help teach the church, no matter how little that help was. I pray that this ministry would be an encouragement for each Christian to take out his Bible and start studying it so that his life would be enriched by the wonderful doctrines God so graciously set in the Bible.

What are your personal interests?

I am an ardent reader of theological works. I also love writing theological articles.

Some of my other current interests are squash (socially) and cycling. I have recently done the 94.7 Cycle Challenge over 94.7km (58.84mi) and the Ian Kernick Memorial Tour over 200km (124.27mi). My wife, Charlaine, and I have completed the Argus Cycle Tour of 108km (67.11mi) which was staged on 14 March 2004. We did the event together.

I also did some long distance running in my day, completing three Comrades Marathon races (1993-5) over 90km (55.92mi). Currently I am not doing any road running due to a problem with a hamstring caused by back problems (only discovered the problem recently).
