Yugo RallyCross

Rallycross is lot of FUN in something small!! While driving a Yugo for several years at Autocross events I went out to a Rallycross and found the Yugo was up to the test.

RallyCross was not part my plan when I put together the Yugo for SOLO, but at the end of the 2005 season I gave it a try. After all, this was the last chance to do some racing before the winter set in. (2005)

I quickly learned that the time starts when they say "GO". This is different from SOLO where you first have to trip an electronic timer, you can't be slow or pause at the start of a Rallycross unlike SOLO. (2005)

What a HOOT!! If you don't mind kicking up a bit of dust (and eating it to) this could be for you. The Yugo performed well that day and was put to sleep till 2006. (2005)

Ahh, a nice muddy day. Well, no dust to eat today. A nice thing about SCCA is the weather rarely stops an event. It can happen if the course becomes unsafe but for the most part the events go as scheduled. (2006)

The Yugo stretching its legs. Hard on a car? Yes it is. Some folks run their street cars, but not me. The Yugo was a $500 build and I didn't have to worry how I was going to get to work on Monday. (2006)

A lot of room. Even though the course is pretty well traveled and laid out, you can still make a wrong turn and your time for that run can be disqualified for going off course. (2006)

I'm not the only one who enjoyed the Yugo. This is Steve Yeoh, I think he liked it.

The last run for the Yugo, between SOLO and Rallycross duties it finally gave out to the abuse. The front suspension after 3 repairs could no longer be fixed. It was retired October 2006.

During the off weekends from racing I would show the rally and low mileage Yugo together at car shows in the area. A Yugo is seldom seen at a car show which made it enjoyable to display the two. (2006)
