Feraligatr
18-8-2001          Feraligatr  LV. 69          Neo: Genesis
Feraligatr.  Some call it the new Blastoise.  Like it's shell cousin, it works best with combos instead of just wacked in a deck.  I use a deck with it, and it works so well, it has never lost.  Here are some of the good points:

Hit Points
The only card in Genesis with 120 HP, this damage soaking damage monster can take more punishment than it's LV. 56 counterpart (which I have in Japanese, just a little useless info).

Poke'mon Power
This power is pathetic, unless this card has it.  It allows you to put cards from your hand into your discard to power up Riptide.  It combos well with Energy Flow.  Take energies off the almost dead Poke'mon and put them into your hand, down the discard they go.  Also works well with Misty's Tears.  Bring 2 water energies into the hand and then put them into the discard pile, then wash them back into the deck with the attack.  Just leave atleast 3 energies in your hand so you can use them next turn.

Attack
Riptide is one of the best new attacks in the game.  It is great for anti-decking.  I just wish it would do more base damage so that if there were no energies in the discard, it would atleast be decent.

Weakness/Resistance/Retreat
Weakness to grass, a refreshing change.  Now we don't get bored fearing Electabuzz and Rocket's Zappy.  It will be nice to be bored with fearing Meganium and Scyther.  The only problem with the weakness is Venusaur's Solar Beam.  Atleast now with the Rocket on format in the STS, we won't have a problem with that as much.  Scyther also proves a problem.  Swords Dance + Slash = RIP.  Meganium also provides a problem.  With it's power, it can do 80 and put to sleep this beast, meaning it may not attack next turn.
       No Resistance.
The retreat cost is a killer.  Best to use Double or Base Set Gust for this one.

Combos
Try with Blasoise.  Blastoise's power will power it up quick.  Also, with the above mentioned trainers, it can be used well with Oak and Misty's Wrath.  Get your hand chockers full of water energies then Oak them away.  Or you could opt to go with Poke'dex and then when you see you have lots of energies, Wrath.  Put the last 2 cards into the hand.  Easy!  Also goes well with the Croconaw LV. 41.  Use Sweep Away to ready for Feraligatr.  Oh, and use the 50 HP Totodile with it.  The other one is merely a snack for the bigger monsters.

Rating
I would give this card an 8/10.  The downfalls are the low base damage and stage 2 cards are always hard to get out.  The retreat isn't that good either.

Anyhoo,
I think this is the best card in Genesis, just know how to use it.
Later ;-)
