| What A Girl Wants follows the story of 17 year old New Yorker Daphne Reynolds, who seems to have everything a girl wants, but things are not always as they seem. The inspirational young American girl has a unique style that she calls her own, a tight-knit relationship with her bohemian mother Libby (Kelly Preston) and a future full of possibilities, but despite Daphne having more than she thinks, she can't help but feel incomplete. She dreams of one day meeting the father she has never known, the man Libby shared a holiday romance with seventeen years ago, but left behind because his aristocratic family found her unsuitable. | of her life with him playing happy families, Daphne hops on a flight to London, England where she quickly discovers her father is the high-profile Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth(, one of London's leading politicians. When Henry opens his life and social calendar to the daughter he never knew existed, Daphne's appearance in high society creates an uproar which may ultimately effect Henry's political campaign and career. Not wanting to jeopardise his campaign due to an upcoming election, Daphne hides her naturally vivacious personality, redresses herself as a proper debutante and plunges head first into a whirlwind of hoity toity British social events. But even with Henry's support, she isn't getting any support from his cunning fiance, Glynnis (Anna Chancellor) nor her snobby, jealous daughter Clarissa (Christina Cole) who are dedicated to bring Daphne down every chance they get. With the aid of Ian (Oliver James), a young, charming would be musician, Daphne proves that love and proper etiquette can conquer all. But Daphne soon realises she doesn't like the person she has become due to all this chopping and changing to fit in. As much as she wants to be Lord Henry Dashwood, her father's daughter, it's not worth it if she can't even be herself.
