YOUR WEDDING DAY
(This poem was a request for a friends daughter's wedding day )

The steps you take today
are reminiscent
of the steps you took
yesterday
Your family and friends
listen and watch as you say "I do".

Tears of happiness, cries of joy
tears to my eyes
in my throat a lump
To this man I must give you away.

You gave me joy, love, gladness
sometimes, a little sadness
that only a Father could know.
Over night you grew
before me stands a woman.
beautiful with independence.

Growing love shines in your face
your eyes sparkle
as you accept
the ring that binds.
Words you vow echo in my ears
My child is a woman now.
