Pirate For Hire

Twilight rested upon the horizon and the rooves of the large edifices littered the sky above the streets of the Ayenee Capital City.
Such a magnificent place when seen from this height, Dekelaus thought. He'd made it to the rooftop of the Bank of Ayenee building with little worry of discovery. The few security guards around the stairwell provided him minimal resistance and the security locks were equally futile in their purposed warding. He'd been working a few days on the preparations for this sortie and frankly he was tired of the amount of study necessary for such a pointless target.

This mission had been requested by a Maridian source that remained anonymous. Dekelaus figured it had something to do with the Ocirian peace talks with the Cali Corporation. He pondered the reasons and why this interview (which had pretty much been kept rather secret) was to be postponed. Aglaranna shouldn't be of interest to Ociria or Maridia and the hundreds of possible answers to the questions he had continued, still, to swirl chaotically within his mind.

Wards, chain guns, and lasers, oh my... he thought to himself. The contents of his duffel bag spilled out onto the cement surface. After double and triple checking his gun-vest and parachute straps, he began to slip the items on, fastening them tightly to his body. All black was the style for the night; even his hair was darker than normal. His azure eyes blinked as he studied the large span between his position and the Cali Corporation Building. Am I this desperate for the work?

His duster coat was worn under his vest, but all the articles on his body were connected via wires and all had plasticity to them. Especially the pack on his back: a small backpack made entirely from a thin plastic-like material, which had a pale tone to it. His phone rang and he tugged it from his pocket, flipped it open and put it to his head. "Dekelaus here." "You've got ten minutes. The next time you hear this phone ring, start the operation," said a familiar woman. Dekelaus nodded his head in compliance and closed the phone. Figuring his practice over the last two days on the construction of his hang glider would not go to waste, he started shoving beams and tarp together to form the black, winged contraption. He knew he'd have a couple of minutes left, so he stared off blankly into space, remembering the exact procedure necessity for this mission. The straps of his hang glider held him firmly in their cradle as he positioned his hands to grasp the bar just in front of him. He waited the few more seconds and, as sure as the sun would rise in the morning, the phone rang and Dekelaus ran towards the edge of the building and lept.

Like a feathered creature he soared towards the Cali Corporation Building which was a good distance away. He knew there were sentry guns on the rooftop and that if they were allowed to shoot, they'd easily bring him and his glider down in small pieces. He smiled, knowing the guns wouldn't begin shooting, because as he flew, his faithful partner, Lauri, pounded at the keys to a computer which was even now hacked in to the CC building's own defense grid. She knew she had about two more minutes and then there would be armed guard around her location in the Bank building, but she calculated this to be enough time to keep Dekelaus in one piece.

Clear sailing...he thought sardonically as the sentry guns turned towards him but stopped prematurely on their rotation. From the bar in front of him, he gripped a mortar-style gun and aimed it below the beacon light of the television antenna, straight for the silhouette of the tower. With a soft thud, a silver device (of alien origin) launched itself and, during its flight, split into two projectiles; hitting then adhering firmly to the antenna's surface. The the primary of the two began to release a low, dull hum while the other was silent on its perch.

He continued his glide over the building, but a mindful guard caught glimpse of his bird-like silhouette and squeezed off two shots. The rounds cut through the hang glider forcing Dekelaus to clip himself free of his wings. The guard tried to radio for back up, but he didn't even receive static. As he raised his head to aim at the pilot of the glider, he found himself staring at nothing. He blinked, seeing no man as he had before. Even when he looked over the edge of the roof, he still saw nothing. That eerie hum caught on the edge of his consciousness and began to annoy the guard as he wondered why the automated sentry guns hadn't shot the man down.

The Immortal Pirate employed the use of his parachute and his thermoptic camouflage. He wouldn't be seen on his descent to the streets. He figured his exit out of the city should be easy and he only worried for Lauri. He had no reason to worry, because Lauri had left her position in the bank building in the nick of time, the guards having stumbled into an office portion of the building where a computer was torn to pieces and a metal bat lay next to the bent computer. Her BMW left Ayenee Capital City in a hurry northward, back to the city of Leviat.

Dekelaus landed a few feet away from his motorcycle and the sound of engines roaring around the city possibly towards his position could be heard. His hand pulled a small detonation device from his pocket and he pushed the button into the handle with his gloved thumb. The Cali Corporation's roof came to life with a large, violent blast, effectively obliterating the television facing towards as well as the entirety of the top floor. He nonchalantly discarded the device onto the sidewalk.

He was sure a bunch of vehicles were searching the streets for him; vehicles filled with CC troops begging for a chance to put a round in some terrorist punk like himself. So, he mounted his bike and started her up, leaving the scene towards the Ayenee Capital City perimeter. A citizen not far behind him spotted his exit and claimed to have seen a motorcycle blazing down the street without a rider...
