Summary: Good girls shouldn’t sneak around under the Quidditch
stands.
~*~
Good girls didn’t snog bad boys under the Quidditch stands.
Good Gryffindors didn’t ignore vital matches to indulge in illicit
activities where no one would be able to see them. They didn’t use
their red and gold scarves to pad the overly hard ground.
They didn’t wrap themselves in the arms of Slytherin boys.
But Severus’ arms were warm and his lips were pressed against hers
and Lily wasn’t really worried about the repercussions. Well, not too
much anyway.
“Ravenclaw’s got to be winning.” Severus pulled away from her and
listened to the cheering crowds above them.
“You’re such a . . . “ Lily buried her head into his shoulder,
nibbling at his collar bone.
“What?” He pushed the hair away from her face, forcing her to look
at him. “I’m such a what . . .?”
“You’re such a boy.” She smiled at his raised eyebrows and
quizzical mouth. “You’re so interested in Quidditch matches, even
when you have no stake in them.”
“What do you mean, no stakes?” He shifter, allowing her to rest
her head on his chest. “I adore seeing Gryffindor’s humiliated.”
“Severus - !”
“You get so huffy and defensive about it. Sometimes you lot act
like it’s an event with life and death consequences, not some random
school sport.”
Lily pulled his head towards hers, as if she were about to kiss
him. “And Quidditch matches aren’t a matter of life and death to
Slytherins?”
“Oh no.” Severus kissed the corner of her mouth. “It’s much more
important than that.” He kissed her again, properly, and for a moment
she was able to forget that she was a good Gryffindor girl, sneaking
around under the Quidditch stands with a Slytherin boy.
He kissed her, hard and long and passionately; and she was allowed
to stop thinking. Allowed to stop thinking about the other
Gryffindors, about what they would think if they caught her.
The crowds broke into rapturous cheers and the stands shook with
applause. Severus pulled away and Lily heard the nasal voice of the
Hufflepuff commentator above the din.
“And Erica Hurt proudly displays the caught Snitch. What a
wonderful win for the Gryffindor team . . .”
Lily rose to her feet, brushing dirt and dust from her socks and
skirt. “I’ve got to go.”
“I know,” Severus threw her scarf at her. “Some things are just a
matter of life and death.” He smiled and there was a strange flicker
in his eyes. “Just remember that there are worse things out there,
Lily. Not everything’s about Quidditch.”
Lily shuddered as she walked away. Within moments she was
swallowed into a group of Gryffindors, dancing and cheering over
their victory. But the flicker of Severus’ eyes and the tone of his
voice consumed her long after the cheers had died away.
