“You will sleep in here.” The woman points at a bare room, devoid
of light and character.
Willow didn’t respond.
The woman, dressed from another era, sighed and turned to Giles.
“She will sleep here.”
Giles nodded. “She heard you.” There was no malice in his voice,
just an antique weariness.
The woman shrugged. “I’ll leave you alone.” Mr. Giles annoyed her,
acting like his ‘American experience' was something she should bow
and scrape at.
Willow slumped onto the thin, hard bed. “How are they?”
He had contacted Buffy while Willow was signing in. “They’re . . .
good. Worried.”
Willow buried her face in her hands. “I can’t stop hurting
people.” The words pressed against her lips like an over pressured
faucet. “I’ve hurt everyone. Everyone.” Her eyes stung. but there
were no tears left anymore.
Giles sat on the bed next to her. “They’ll help you here. You’ll
get better.”
Willow looked at the tiny window set into the stone wall. “How
high up are we?”
“It’s an endless fall to the ground.”
