7.  Multicultural education and anti-bias curriculum describe programs that emphasize exploration of and respect for different cultures. This approach is important for all students.
A)  Activities should increase understanding and reduce fear.
B)  Multicultural education can involve childrenŐs families and should counteract common stereotypes.
C)  Children should develop their own identity concept while increasing their sense of connection with others, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
D)  Derman-Sparks suggests the following quality markers for quality anti-bias or multicultural educational programs:
i.  ChildrenŐs daily personal experiences should be incorporated into the curriculum.
ii.  Parents should be regularly and actively involved in the classroom.
iii.  Diversity and justice issues should be incorporated in the curriculum. 8.  Reading and writing can be implemented in social studies curriculum via letter writing campaigns, historical stories, and the creation of narrative books and biographies.
