YOUR INSTRUCTOR
My name is Ann Casstevens,  and it will be my pleasure to work with you this semester.

In my teaching career, I have taught preschoolers through graduate students.  My classroom experiences include college level courses in child/adolescent development and education; high school history and government; middle school social studies; elementary special education grades K-5; and Montessori preschool.

Additional educational experiences include special education counselor; K-12 counselor; high school counselor; elementary counselor; and middle school counselor.  My  endorsements/certification areas are Secondary Education (Social Studies and Language Arts), Guidance and Counseling, Special Education, and Mid-Management.  In addition, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor  and a State of Texas Certified Mediator.

At various times, I have served, among several other positions, as Testing Coordinator, 504 Coordinator, Educational Liaison, ESL Coordinator, Director of Guidance and Counseling, Program Coordinator, and last but not least, a mother.  As you can see, there isn’t much I haven’t done or seen in education.  I weathered the reforms of the 1980’s and have continued to develop with all of the changes since then.

I received my graduate and undergraduate degrees at Texas A&M-Commerce.  My post-graduate work was completed at the University of Texas at Tyler and St. Nicholas Training School, London, England.

My courses are designed to help you develop skills that will assist you in becoming an effective teacher.  I use real-life examples and projects.  Often I have worked with new teachers who have said that they weren’t told about the realities of teaching – how difficult it CAN be and how frustrating it WILL be.  They report learning a lot of theories but limited practicalities.  Every assignment in this course has been designed to facilitate your growth toward becoming a professional teacher.  To rephrase a too often quoted saying, “Those who can, do; those who can do it
BEST, teach.”
