VIDEO REQUIRED VIEWING You are required to view seven videos during the semester. You may view these in the library, second floor. View them in order. Life's Greatest Miracle (DVD): Among the highlights - a new take on the old story of how egg and sperm find each other, a dramatic view of the six day old embryo as it escapes from the confining shell, and a unique look at the creation of blood vessels and organs like the eyes and the brain. The Baby Human (DVD): Experience the first two years of a child's life just as they do. It's an incredible journey each of us has taken-but none of us remember. Get a carpet-and-crib-eye view of the baby's world as they take their first humorous, death-defying, wondrous steps into life. T A Baby's World (Video Tapes): This is a series of three videos covering the age of newborns through three years. Video I: A Whole New World: Newborn to 1 year Video II: The Language of Being: 1 year to 2 years Video III: Reason and Relationships: 2 to 3 years A Child's World (Video Tapes) This is a series of three videos covering the important development of the young child. Video I: Facts of Life: At one year, children have no understand of gender, yet they still conform to traditional gender stereotypes. But is this a function of nature or nurture? Explore the different effects brain chemistry and adult interaction have on the long and sometimes strenuous quest to understand gender. This video guides you through the minds of children to explain why they grow up seeing life as a moment in time rather than a process of growth and change, and how a conceptual understanding of time is the first step towards making this distinction. Video II: Independent Thinker: A child's world is an ongoing road to independence, a constant quest for a sense of self. And it's one which from complete helplessness to total independence, takes humans longer than any other species. But why? Video III: Mind Games: Lying is a fact of life. We're taught from birth that it's bad, but the truth is human relationships would disintegrate without it. Luckily, it comes naturally to all of us - just not right away. It's not until age 3, at the earliest, that children develop what may be the most important skill they will ever use - the ability to understand and act upon the fact that others think and feel differently from the. Only then are they able to lie. |
