The Star 2/3/00 - Ancom Bhd is working together with Oracle in a strategic partnership to create South-East Asia's first online commercial exchange for the chemical industry and its related services. It said the exchange, dubbed worldSOL.com, would bring together many blue chip companies that are key players in the industry. It also announced its acquisition of 50.1% of Malay Sino Technologies Sdn Bhd, an MSC-status company for about 10mil. Siew said when fully mature, Ancom expected worldSOL.com to be the region's leading business-to-business e-commerce marketplace for the chemical industry.

The Star 2/3/00 - Aokam Perdana Bhd has recorded a pre-tax loss of RM12.22mil for its second quarter ended Dec 31, 1999 against a profit of RM9.41mil. The company said its production and marketing activities are gradually being stepped up amid a recovering timber industry.

The Star 1/3/00 - APM Holdings Bhd has reported a four-fold increase in net profit to RM34.5mil for its year to Dec 31, 1999 from RM8.136mil previously. Up 324%.

Delloyd

The Star 28/3/00 - Delloy Ventures Bhd has proposed to acquire 50.1% stake in Asian Auto Interactive Sdn Bhd (AAI). AAI principal business was in the design, development and management of the ongoing automotive community and related electronic commerce site on the Internet known as www.asiauto.com. Delloyd said it had in principle agreed to enter into a deed of assignment with Sensory Labs Sdn Bhd and Patrick Yeoh Eng Kong where Yeoh assigned 50.1% of his rights, titles and interests in AAI to Delloyd for RM1.5million cash.

Dijaent

The Star 20/3/00 - Bought 60% stake in the following net firms:

(1) MyETutor.com Sdn Bhd for RM9mil, which aims to provide education services to primary and secondary students via the Internet. It will embark on a nationwide campaign to promote its services in late May.

(2) 1800Assist.com Sdn Bhd for RM15mil, which will provide Internet and Wireless Application Protocol facitlities. It would also host a range of commercial applications and has tied up with Cosway, Sports Toto, Singer, Ticket Express and a number of other businesses. Scheduled to be launched in May 2000.

(3) Mcities.com for RM11mil, it is to build and operate the mechanism, facilities and platform for professionals and consumers in the entertainment industry.

The Star 4/3/00 - Electrical contractor and component manufacturer Dijaya Enterprises Bhd is venturing into the dotcom business in a big way, following the introduction of two new major shareholders Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun and Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. On Thursday the company signed agreements to subscribe to majority stakes in two Internet-based companies for RM34.7mil. Dijaya would acquire up to 50% stakes in Thailand-based online travel reservation group, Asia Web Direct (HK) Ltd, for US$4.75mil (RM18.05mil). Asia Web Direct is the owner of a popular travel web site in Thailand, www.Phuket.com. It also has agreed to take a 60.8% stake in The World of Feng Shui Sdn Bhd, which owns the www.worldoffengshui.com webiste, for RM16.6mil.

For its financial year ended June 30, 1999, the group recorded a pre-tax loss of RM11.98mil, which was lower than the loss of RM30.88mil previously.

Hicom

The Star 6/3/00 - EPS in 1999 is (15.1) sen from 1998's 60.8 sen. Forecasts by The Star/KL City Securiites Research for year 2000 and 2001 are (1.5) sen and 12 sen respectively. P/E ratio for 1998 is 4.6, 1999(E) (18.5), 2000 (F) (185.2) and 2001(F) 23.4.

The Star 4/3/00 - Rating Agency of Malaysia Bhd (RAM) has put Hicom Holdings Bhd on ratings watch after the company announced plans to merge with its asscociates Gadek Bhd, Gadek Capital Bhd and Diversified Resources Bhd. To be placed under ratings watch are the BBB1 and P3 ratings on Hicom's RM950mil redeemable secured bonds and RM500mil Islamic note facility, RAM said in a statement. The rating agency said it would discuss the merger with Hicom and make an announcement when the full effects of the merger had been determined.

Leader

The Star 2/3/00 - Leader Universal Holdings the countries' leading wire and cable manufacturer, is confident of bouncing back into the black this year. In a statement it said that it had wiped its slate clean of all provisional and exceptional losses incurred in its operations in the financial year Dec 31, 1999. The group recorded a pre-tax loss of RM387.79mil for year 1999 on the back of RM1.014bil in turnover.

The Star 23/3/00 - Linear Corp Bhd is to buy a 65% stake in a regional e-business venture company Unique.com Ltd for RM20.995 million. Unique.com which is to be renamed PrimeAce Venture Ltd has strategic stakes of 10% to 70% in six established Internet and e-business companies. They are Asiadragons.com (Singapore-based content provider and search engine), Media Shoppe (Malaysian e-enabler service provider), Pilot Advanced Systems (local e-commerce enabler specialising in data warehousing and decision support systems), Unified Systems (Singapore, manages an Asian financial portal), Barter Business Network (Internet barter-trade exchange company) and Idea-Hub.com (a Hong Kong-based Internet company incubator). The remaining 35% stake in Unique.com stake would be held by vendors Jerry Chin and Lum Weng.

The Edge 12/3/00 - eRumours link it to Richard Li (son of Li Ka Seng who had just bought over a main Hong Kong telcos company for US$38Billion) and Horizon.com.

The Star 1/3/00 - Pantai Holdings Bhd proposes to acquire for a total of RM304 million three companies involved in the medical examination of foreign workers; the companies are Anjur Dinamik SB, Pengkalan Usaha (M) SB, and Healthpac Industries SB.

Paracorp

The Star 11/3/00 - It planned to use its wholly-owned unit Paracorp Technology Sdn Bhd to spearhead the design of IT-related products, especially for telecommunications. It planned to use its MSC status accorded and hope to move into Cyberjaya by the first quarter of next year. Paracoprt Technology which has a paid-up capital of RM500,000 has until now been dormant. Paracorp incurred losses through its consumer products division Team Concepts which is mainly engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic learning aids (ELA), telecommunications devices and universal remote controllers (URS) and aosl provides electronic manufaacturing services. Team Concepts Holdings Ltd is an investment holding company listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Paracorp shareholders approved the proposed placement of one million shares of 10 HK cents each in Team Concepts Holdings for cash at par. Proceeds of HK$100 mil from the placement will be used to repay borrowings, for working capital and placement expenses.

PNE PCB

The Star 3/3/00 - Printer circuit board (PCB) manufacturer PNE PCB Bhd is to expand to China this year by acquiring an existing company there. Its executive managing director Jonathan Tan Kong Guan said the company was looking at either buying up or merging with the foreign-owned PCB manufacturer. He said the demand for the company's value-added PCB products have increased positively, particularly carbon printed PCB boards and the silver-through-hole PCBs. Tan said value-added PCBs were normally used in remote controls, calculators, keyboards, facsimile machines, multimedia equipment, CD-roms and high-end audio visual equipment. PCBs are basic components used in any electronic equipment or system. They comprise a piece of substrate, which can be of plastic material or fibre glass. Almost all electronic equipment from large components and radar systems right down to pockey radios use PCBs as the main component support and interconnection system. Tan said currently 50% of the company's turnover constituted valune-added PCBs. It plans to increase the figure to 70% by end of 2001 because they getched good prices.

For the financial year ended Sept 30, 1999, group turnover fell to RM119.42mil in 1999 from RM120.78mil previously while pre-tax profit declined to RM16.43mil from RM17.38mil in 1998.

The Star 1/3/00 - Ta Ann Holdings Bhd has reported a pre-tax profit of RM56.6mil for its financial year ended Dec 31, 1999, surpassing its forecast of RM46.7mil. Earnings per share was 77.2 sen against a forecast 68.9 sen. The better performance was attributed to improved market prices for logs and timber products.
