Pharmaniaga

The Star 20/3/00 - Pharmaniaga Bhd's million ringgit electronic mall (e-mall) project at ehealth4all.com will start operating soon to further boost the marketing of health care products and services in the local and global healthcare markets. For a start over 130 healthcare products would be available at its cybermaill, some RM4mil would be spent to start the project. The company would be working together with Time.Dot.Com in the e-commerce project. Listed on the KLSE second board last Nov 12, Pharmaniaga is the only company of its kind to be listed. For year ended Dec 31, 1999, it registered RM26.5mil in group profit before tax, RM356mil in turnover and 41.4 sen earnings per share. Through its 70% owned subsidiary, Remedi Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd, it has secured a 15-year government contract to supply medicine and medical disposables (such as golves and gauze) to 118 Ministry of Health (MOH) hospitals which included 14 general hospitals and also all health clinics in the country. Supplies to the MOH hospitals amounted to 84% of the company's turnover last year. Its e-commerce would be expected to greatly enhance the company's sales in the private sector, including export market, which currently amounted to 20% of tis total turnover. Tan said Pharmaniaga's sale of generic and patented drugs (on prescription) amounted to about RM300 mil last year or 25% of an estimated RM 1.2bil sales in the local market. The market size is projected to grow 10% annually to RM1.32bil this year against RM1.2bil in 1999. Health Minister Datuk Chua Jui Meng is scheduled to launch ehealth4all.com on March 27. The Star 20/3/00 - The Tansmile group has a rather unique business dealing in air transportation services as well as selling and leasing of aircraft. This business segment should be doing well, given the expected higher delivery services emanating from rising e-commerce activities.

 TransOcean

The Star 23/3/00 - Engaged in bonded warehouse operations, air and sea forwardng, trucking and container haulage services whose clients include MNC such as Intel, Acer, Robert Bosch, B. Braun and Pen-Grou. It plans to venture into e-commerce and market information technology (IT) services and solutions to the business community. It has begun talks with a few IT companies including a Singaporean firm. The company was looking into areas such as informaiton system and strategic planning (ISSP) as well as system development and integration development (SI) services. Through the services of a professional IT consultancy company in which Transocean will hold equity, Tocean will undertake a comlete revamp of its IT network covering all sectors for the logistics chain.
