AAND THE
HISTORIAN SAID...
If in a cache, never unraveled were bygone events,
In this era would unexpounded episode creep,
Evoking among us inevitable chaos.
If men and places, historic they may be,
Were recognized not of their feats,
Who, undaunted being in this enigmatic world
would venture?
If historians, adamant in their tasks,
The present would discern not the foreseen future;
Acknowledgement for the relentless disclosure
If the concealed past should the world pervade.
If history deems, "civilitas success it barbarum,"
Why, new society of ancient earth do prejudices
The uncertain fact, crippling every effort of change?
If we, shielded with impunity, persons enslaved not
Of yesterday's atrocities and mistakes
Must unfold the reforms -- society's dire need,
We must proliferate!
If today's changes, to the next generation
Would be poignant, enough to pierce their hearts,
Then, struggle for contentment's sake in an abyss
Would not be cast.
Thus,
If we, historians in our own right, in the continuous
Search for wisdom, seek not for fame but service,
We proclaim,
"Deo Juvante," we shall succeed...
"Adieu," until we meet again...
