Even further back in some perspectives. Today's Middle East is a a f-cking mess. I think that's the most succinct way I can put it. To resolve the conflict, the Palestinians elect a moderate and unceremoniously dump Yasser Arafat. Arafat is a better terrorist than a politician. He's crafty and good at playing both sides of the fence but at the end of the day his actions are to the detriment of peace in the region. The Middle East is a gordian knot that I will untangle as follows: Palestine elects new moderate leadership willing to make a deal. In return, Israel pledges to negotiate with the new Arab leadership. Land for Peace talks commence. Israel withdraws entirely from the West Bank, Gaza and returns to their pre-1967 borders. Israel ceases settlements of Arabic land, and withdraws from post-1967 settlements. Israel withdraws from the Golan Heights, which are now administrated by Syria. In return for this action, Syria's Ba'ath party recognizes Israel as a State. The state of Palestine is officially created and admitted to the UN. Palestine officially recognizes the State of Israel and its right to exist. Hamas and Hezbollah disarm. In Iraq, Saddam Hussein attends an anniversary celebration of the end of the Iran-Iraq war. Several disgruntled Iraqi officers plot against Saddam and receive CIA backing. At the height of the celebrations Saddam is assassinated in a coup d'etat. The new Iraqi junta establishes positive relations with the western world. The junta further normalizes relations with Iraq's neighbors and continues to produce oil at a prolific rate. Within two years the junta agree to hold democratic elections. Update: Saddam is dead? A new Islamic Democracy is created and thrives in the oil rich region. Northern Ireland - Home Rule ended in the 1920's and Ireland became a Republic, well most of Ireland. Most of Ireland became free of British rule, all except for the six counties in the North. These counties, known as Northern Ireland or Ulster, remained under British sovereignty. Michael Collins paid with his life for this partition. Northern Ireland is mostly comprised of Protestant who remain British and remain loyal to the Crown. Resolution: A new state is created with equal Catholic/Protestant leadership. The IRA and the Provos disarm, the British Army withdraws. American delegation comes in and supervises the election. A new state of Northern Ireland is created, wholly independent from London and Dublin. British, Irish and American aid is increased to provide infrastructure and employment. Within ten years Northern Ireland becames a small economic powerhouse, hi tech industries, low unemloyment, everyone is happy. U.S. - Cuban Relations The Cuban economy is in shambles, the American embargo has strangled most of the life out of the country, yet Cuba remains defiant. Resolution: An American entourage meets with the Cubans in Havana. Due to rising hardships in Cuba, Fidel saves face by agreeing to hold free elections within two years. The socialist ideals of free education and universal healthcare remain unaffected. Cubans freely elect a democratic government. An influx of American capital provides new hotels on the Havana beaches. Jobs are created, everyone celebrates. |
