| In addressing the apparent improper wearing of "V" device on one or more ribbons, Senator Kerry said the following of Admiral Borda, Chief of Naval Operations who committed suicide over the incident: "Is it wrong? Yes, it is very wrong. Sufficient to question his leadership position? The answer is yes, which he clearly understood," said Sen. John Kerry, a Navy combat veteran who served in Vietnam. | Bitner Comment: Does this matter? It may not matter to those who have no understanding of what the "V" device means - but it does matter to everyone who served and understands the personal sacrifice and selflessness of those awarded a "V" device. In John Kerry's own words - his claiming a "V" device on a Silver Star should bring into question "his leadership position." This has nothing to do with whether or not he earned the award, but it does have to do with his integrity in claiming "V" device that is never awarded with this medal. |
