The first Cocker Spaniel to join our household was a Black/Tan boy we named "Nugget" He was bought as a pet, from a pet litter, with the view to doing some obedience work with him. When we went to see the litter, he was the first one to come over to say "hello", not over confident, but confident enough. And he was such a lovely colour, a really bright black and tan.
By 5 months of age, I believed I had a budding obedience star on my hands, we breezed through the grades so easily. So I contacted the breeder to ask if we could get his papers. So Charadai Gold Nugget was officially registered. It was so funny some of the reactions I got with him, people thought he was a 'miniature Rottweiler'or a 'miniature dobermann' simply because of his unusual colouring! On one of our walks I met up with a person who told me about a Club just for Cocker Spaniels and I attended one of their Fun Days, to see what it was all about! Well, the attention we got was overwhelming, everyone was interested to know where I had got this black and tan puppy from, simply because here in South Australia they are not very common. I was also 'reliably' informed that he was "really quite nice" and it was suggested that I show him. At his very first show he was Runner Up Puppy of Breed, at 9 months of age and under breed specialist, the late Frank Werner. And so it was..... SUCKED IN I think is the term!!! So far we have enjoyed every minute and met so many lovely dogs , people and made many friends. This website is a tribute to the dogs who have enriched our lives and I hope you enjoy your visit. Please feel free to sign the Guestbook and come back often. |
