Richard Eschliman, speech and drama instructor at Fort Scott High School, was presented the JayCees' "Outstanding Young Teacher's Award" Thursday night. Mr. Eschliman was chosen on his ability to teach and get along with the students.
Late News: Prime Minister Fidel Castro arrived tonight on a surprise visit to Premier Krushchev with more Soviet economic aid for Cuba presumably his aim.
Margaret Ann Lee Sperry and Donald Lee Bardgett exchange wedding vows. Bride is a teacher of journalism and speech at the Fort Scott High School and Junior College.
Bulletin-Houston (AP) Astronaut John H. Glenn Jr. resigned from the nation's space program today, presumable to seek election to the U.S. Senate from his native state of Ohio.
The Fort Scott Tigers defeated the Chanute Comets Tuesday night and the Altamont Grizzlies Thursday night to be eligible to play in the championship game Saturday night. Although the Tigers were defeated in their final game by the Osage City Indians, they honored Coach Eshelbrenner and Coach Crane by winning the second place trophy at the Columbus Invitational tournament.
The vocational agriculture department and FFA chaper here placed fourth as a team at the Southeast Kansas FFA speech contest at Caney Saturday, according to Milton Kohrs, instructor. Individual placings were: Senior-Clyde Albright, third; Junior-Donald Pfeiffer, sixth; Sophomore-Jim Mertz-fourth, and Freshman-Dale Carter, fifth.

Viet Junta Ousted in Bloodless Coup-Saigon, Viet Nam (AP) Maj. Gen. Nguyen Khanh, a 37-year-old army corps commander, became a virtual dictator of South Viet Nam today in a swift, bloodless coup. He pledged to "smash the Communists and the traitors who advocate neutralism."
Hick's salary hiked-Administrator's pay here seen below average. The school board last night voted a $350.00 pay raise for Dr. Robert E. Hicks, supertendent and stipulated $600.00 to be added to his salary for travel expenses within the city. His salary now is $10,150 and the additional $950 will hike it to $11,100 next year.
GOP Senators Offer Health Care Proposal-Six Republican senators offered legislation today to provide a public-private health care plan for the aged that they described as the most comprehensive yet presented to Congress.
