This morning, as I entered school I had no idea of the events that would shape my morning. I went to classes as normal, but when reaching English I heard of the terrible news of the first plane running into the TWIN TOWERS in NYC. I was startled, but viewed the incident as an accident. As I entered my study hall, it was packed with teens watching the news. Teachers, and other faculty were present as well. I then heard the tragic news of another airplane that had crashed into the secod tower. Then all of America waited as the next plane hit the PENTAGON, and then the next crashed in PENNSLYVANNIA. As I watched I looked over all those in my class...people who i had grown up with...people who were my friends, and the class clowns...just everybody, and for the first time I saw a serious look on everyones' face. It was true, America wasn't as immune to attack as we had all thought. Soon I looked over at my friend Jessica, who had grown up in NYC, and I saw the tears in her eyes as she told me that both of her brothers were leaving to help out in DC, and NYC. Later on the night of September 11, 2001 I found out that her cousin was presumed dead in the TWIN TOWERS. So why all this chaos???? What was the purpose???? How can we prevent this from happening again???? As if events like Columbine weren't enough, we must live through this horrible event. It doesn't seem real, but as we all tune into our local news we know it is truth. America is a strong nation, and a powerful nation. The things we have seen in WASHINGTON, NYC, AND PENN. are sad, and horrifying. There is no one reason why this had to happen. Many senseless lives ruined for what? No matter what those responsible say or do, they can never justify the dispicable thing they have done. They took parents away from children, children away from parents, mother's away from daughters, and tore apart families, and they have the nerve to say they have a purpose they are fighting for? The only thing that we can do to prevent these things from happening is to rise up. I don't just mean adults, I mean teens mainly! Who are we? I will be 18 soon, but I have worked hard to fight violence in our community, along with discrimination. This event will never leave my mind. We as a nation need to rise up and stand together. We need to stay strong for eachother, and to work together. We, teenagers, are the next generation. If we don't take action now then what will our future be like? That's right, we are the future business leaders, and officials who will run this world. What will life be like if we go around not caring about what happens in our society. We need to value eachother as human beings, and take a stand always, no matter what the situation. |
