"Come As You Are" Breakfast
This has to be carefully coordinated with the parents. Arrange to pick up the girls one-by-one at their homes at around 6:30 or 7:00 AM (before they wake up normally.) They are to "come as they are", no fair changing out of their P.J.'s or brushing hair. Take them to Denny's or McDonald's or some other restaurant that is open early for breakfast. This is particularly fun with girls ages 10 and up.
Progressive Dinner
This is a dinner where you have one course at one house and then move on to the next course at the next house. Keep the food simple. You might do salad or veggies with dip at one house, pizza at the next, and finish off with ice cream sundaes at the last house. If several girls live in the same neighborhood it is fun to walk between the houses.
Cookie Exchange
This has become a tradition as part of our troop's Winter Holiday Party. The cookies do not have to be homemade (it is a busy time of year), but usually are. The girls are all so proud of what they bring! Each girl (and each leader) brings as many cookies as there are girls (and leaders) in the troop and a few extra for eating at the party. The cookies are put out on plates and the girls select one of each kind to take home.
Mother-Daughter Mad Hatter's Tea Party - from the cadsenleaders list
A Cadette troop wanted to get all their moms together so that they could interview them for part of their Cadette Challenge requirements. They decided to have a Mad Hatter's tea party. They sent out invitations to all their mothers. The moms were told to wear as crazy as a hat as they could come up with (the girls did too) and to bring their own tea-cup and saucer (that way everyone would have different one). You would not believe some of the hats that came in the door. The felt one with the turned up brim and very looooooooong pheasant feathers was the most hilarious until one mom came in wearing a pith helmet shaped hat completely covered in hot pink ostrich feathers (the short fuzzy ones). What a scream! The girls did all the work-set the table, made the tea, baked or brought the cookies and waited on the moms. After they chatted a while, the girls went around and interviewed whoever they wanted to. Then, when everyone was done, they read off answers to the question, "What did you want to be when you were growing up?" and had the girls try and guess which mother went with which answer.
Nobody got the answers right but they sure did have a lot of fun.
