Stonington Harbor Light
The first tower was built in 1823, but was dismantled due to erosion and weathering. The materials were used to build the present light in 1840. It is right on Water St., a small walk from the point. It remained active until 1889, when a warning beacon  was installed on the breakwater in the harbor. The lighthouse was turned into a museum in 1927, and has many rooms full of artifacts and history of lighthouse families and maritime pieces. The charge $4.00 per adult when we were there, well worth it to see a piece of history close up. The museum has a gift shop on the first floor of the light, and you can climb the narrow ladder to get a glimpse of the harbor from the lantern room.
