AVED Display Technologies AV555

High performance Flat Panel/CRT Video Controller

I have not been able to find too much information, but, I was able to find a data sheet on the zlcd web site, which is part of EarthLCD.

Data sheet for AV555 LVDS.

I have found four different versions of the board.  Mainly the differences are what BIOS is loaded and whether is has 2MB or 4MB of memory on board.

I have created binary files for each of the four BIOS chips.  To download them right click on the BIOS name in the table above and Save As.
The BIOS chips on the board are SGS Thompson M27C512-12C1.  They are not reprogrammable so you will need to buy some compatible parts and program them on some kind of PROM programmer.

The two LVDS chip used on the board are made by THinc Electronics, Inc. and are part number THC63LVDM63A.  The matching receivers are THC63LVDR64A or THC63LVDF64A depending on if you want rising or falling edge.  Each of the LVDS transmitter takes 18 lines of LCD data and sends it across four twisted pair wires.  The LVDS receiver takes the four twisted pair signals and converts them back into 18 lines of LCD data.  The AV555 board with the 36BXGTFT BIOS contains two of these chips for a total of 36 bits of data send across.

The THC63LVDM63A is an improved replacement to the National Semi. DS90C561 and the THC63LVDF64A receiver is a improved replacement of the DS90C562.

The BIOS code defines what panels can be connected to the board since it contains the startup code, timing parameters, resolution, color depth etc. for the panel.

The following is my translation of what the BIOS names mean.
16BVGSTI - "16B" 16 bit, "VG" VGA-640x480 resolution, "STI" DSTN interface.
The part number of this board is AV555-DG2-LM10V33.  The LM10V33 just so happens to be the part number of a DSTN, VGA panel made by Sharp.
18SV2TFI - "18" 18 bit, "SV" SVGA-800x600 resolution, "2TFI" Dual pixel per clock TFT interface.
36BSXTF2 - "36B" 36 bit, "SX" SXGA-1280x1024 resolution, "TF2" Dual pixel per clock TFT interface.
36BXGTFT - "36B" 36 bit, "XGA 1024x768 resolution, "TFT" TFT interface.  Since it's 36 bit it's got to be Dual pixel per clock.
The part number of this board is AV555-LVDS-IXTG60.  ITXG60 is very similar to several IBM LCD Panels, but, the IBM part numbers have the X and T letters reversed, so I'm not sure if that was a mistake.
