Ever since I first picked up Cyberpunk there's been something about its netrunning rules that I haven't liked. Worse its the one aspect of the system that most new players and writers seem to want to jump on. No one it seems, including the writers of the game have really sat down and looked at netrunning realistically, from a conceptual and speculative point of view. Basically what I'm saying is that it has no realism.
Okay, there's a reason for this. Like Gibson most of the people writing about cyberpunk don't know much about computers. But where as Gibson admits this, most online writers don't. Worse the initial game system seems to read like a bad cross between the almost empty net of Neuromancer and the keyboard controlled 'face of Hardwired. But they got all the worst aspects.
So basically what I'm trying to do is fix this. Now most people will look at me and think I'm a nutjob. Oh well, but I can live with it. Worse some people will be offended, after all I'm making an almost direct attack on some of their ideas. I won't name names if I can help it, but some people will probably figure out if I'm referring to them at some point. This can't be helped, and basically I'm trying to be objective. So read it first at least, before firing off the hate mail.
A new way of looking at ICE functions in netrunning programs. This article forms the basis for all the related articles that follow. Essentially it outlines in brief how the human nervous sytem works and how the neural prcessor provides the key for almost all realistic ICE functions.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. It will overlap a little with some of the other articles on this section but will largely look at brain and nerve function abherations.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. It will overlap a little with some of the other articles on this section but will largely look at hormonal function abherations.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. It will overlap a little with some of the other articles on this section but will largely look at emotional function abherations.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. It will overlap a little with some of the other articles on this section but will largely look at mental function abherations.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. Mostly it will look at a few new ways to play havoc with a netrunner's deck and other hardware.
This article looks at various options for ICE attack modules. It will look at the various ways an attack program can cause problems for the runner who is still accessing the net.
A new technology on the horizon. Based on Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell, it makes use of computers to completely alter or affect a target's memories.
More technology from Ghost in the Shell, ghost hacking is used to attack a target's body directly, mostly by taking over control of various cybernetic devices.
If you can attack the mind, or as Masamune Shirow calls it, the Ghost, you must also be able to defend it. Barrier programs are the next wave in netrunning defenses.
One of the more neglected aspects of modern technology. The Computer. This article looks at some of the uses for this wonder of technology that even 2020's pinks will be interested in. An ongoing upgrade article.
Punks tend to be gear heads for technology, so its never enough to simply by a computer. They need peripherals and add ons. This article will over time add new things to buy for your computer.
Just me spouting off again at various weird ideas that are in cyberpunk. This is where I'll dump em all over time.
An older article stating some of my views about how the Net and programs should run if any realism had been added.
Some views on the way the Net looks and what can be found there.
Of all the things in Cyberpunk's Net the IG transformations have got to be one of the weirdest and least realistic.
The Net is everywhere. Even in your TV.
Some of my original ideas for netrunning software.
A basic explanation why I started this whole ICE and Biology kick in the first place.
Software, everybody needs it. Some ideas for software in 2020.
