FBI HEADQUARTERS
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21st
8:30 A.M.
"Hey Scully, here's the new case." Mulder handed the x-file to his
partner, Scully.
"No thanks Mulder, I don't want to see it." Scully, whom was
sitting behind his desk with her feet resting on the corner, looked
at him and shook her head. "I'm not interested Mulder, go find
someone else."
"What? I'm sorry I didn't catch that last part." Mulder was
astonished, Scully never turned away a case unless she had a good
reason. For the life of him, he couldn't figure out why.
"Look Mulder, I'm not in the mood to go fly across the country in
search of something that was seen in the sky over some hick town in
the midwest."
"What's your problem?" Mulder asked.
Scully was shocked. "What's my problem? It's more like what's your
problem. All week you've had this chip on your shoulder the size of
the North America. I've went along with your complaining, bitching
about Skinner and everyone else who's stepped in your path during
your entire life, until now. Now you can learn to live with me
because it's my turn." She slowly removed her legs off his desk.
"Starting with the fact that I'm going home for the rest of the
day."
"Why?" Mulder tried to get in a word in edge wise.
"Because I want to." Scully grabbed her things and headed out the
door. "Do not phone me this weekend. No matter the reason."
The door slammed and the room went silent.
A couple of minutes passed before Mulder stopped staring at the
door. As he moved to sit where Scully was, he noticed what Scully
was looking at. It was a partner evaluation form that he had
partially filled out. He had filled it out during one of their last
fights as a way of getting back at her for what she had told
Skinner about their last case. His concluding statement said that
she should be re-evaluated and possibly transferred to another
division. The only problem was that he hadn't remember to get rid
of it.
he thought to himself as he ripped up the form
into tiny pieces.

DANA SCULLY'S APARTMENT
ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND
5:16 P.M.
Dana Scully couldn't believe what she had said to Mulder that
morning but it didn't matter now. Now she knew that her job at the
X-Files was on the line along with her friendship with Mulder.
the little voice in the back
of her mind told her.
"That's easy for you to say." She told herself.
The phone ringing broke the silence.
she thought. "Let it ring."
*Hi, you've reached Dana Scully, please leave your name and number
at the tone. Thanks, bye.*
"Scully, it's me. I know you're screening your phone calls so
please pick up." Mulder begged. "Listen, I'm sorry for what
happened this week, I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Just pick
up, please?"
*BEEP!*
"That makes ten." Scully silently counted the number of times he
had phone her. It had been once an hour ever since she left, but
now it was more like every half hour too.
The phone rang again, this time she picked it up on the first ring.
"Listen Mulder, leave me alone!" She screamed into the phone.
"Whoa Dana, wait a minute, it's me Kennedy, your friendly Canadian
Morpher." Her pal, Alexandra Kennedy smiled.
"Oh I'm sorry Kennedy, I thought it was Mulder." Scully apologised.
"Okay normally I'd say 'good-bye' but judging by your tone. Let me
guess, Mulder had a new case for you?"
"How'd you know?"
"I dunno," the Morpher sighed. "Luck."
"Look, can I call you back later?" Scully asked.
"No." Kennedy moved the phone to the other shoulder. "I'm on my way
over."
"It's really not necessary, I really just want to be alone."
"Dana Katherine Scully, I know you too well, okay that's not quite
true but I know enough that people who are depressed, like you are
now, should not be alone." Kennedy said, though she sounded more as
if she was preaching to her friend.
"Look Dr. Kennedy, I just want to be alone."
"You know the more you say no, the faster I'll drive over." Kennedy
smiled. "Come on Dana, I'll bring the Haagen Diaz?"
"Thanks but no thanks, I picked up some on the way home," Scully
turned down her friend politely.
"Too bad, I'm coming over. See you in a half hour." Kennedy hung
the phone and grabbed her car keys.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER...
*Knock, knock*
"Kennedy, you're late." Scully opened the door.
"Yeah well I ran into some annoying persons on the way over."
Kennedy walked in and took off her coat. "Probably would have been
faster to fly over."
"That would've been a sight, a bird carrying a tub of ice cream."
Scully teased.
"Well, you must be feeling better, you're back to making snide
comments." Kennedy smiled.
"Hey, I call 'em as I see 'em." Scully headed for the kitchen. "Now
to return to what I was doing."
Kennedy leaned against the wall as she friend inhale a couple more
mouth fills of the cold treat. "Are you going to share?"
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
TWO HOURS LATER...
*Ring, ring*
"Hello?"
"Kennedy?" Mulder asked. "Where's Scully?"
"Yeah it's me. Don't worry, she's fine, she's in the kitchen."
Kennedy replied just before a loud crash came from the kitchen
followed by several swear words.
"I'm on my way over." Mulder told the Morpher.
"No, don't you dare Fox Mulder." Kennedy told him firmly. "She's
not ready to see you just yet. Maybe tomorrow, I'll get her to call
you then."
Mulder let out a deep sigh. "Fine, night Kennedy."
"Night Mulder." Kennedy hung up the phone in time to see Scully
reach for her CD's. "What do you think you're doing, young lady?"
"Lady in red
Is dancing with me,
cheek to cheek
There's nobody here,
just you and me"
Kennedy watched in amazement as Scully sang the lyrics to the Chris
DeBurgh song as she danced around the room. "This is too weird,"
she muttered.
As Scully slowly stopped singing and dancing, her body became loose
like a rag doll.
the Morpher told herself.
"Hey Scully, how about some classic 70's music, now any good ones?"
Scully didn't move.
"How about you get some sleep?" Kennedy asked as she moved toward
Scully.
"As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you hold me dear"
the Canadian thought.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
LATER...
*Ring, ring*
"Dana Scully's." Kennedy answered.
"Alexandra?" Margaret Scully said warmly. "How are you? Where's
Dana?"
"Ah Mrs. Scully, I'm fine." Kennedy didn't know what to say, she
knew if she said too much, Margaret would be on her way over and
she was worse to get rid of then Mulder. "Dana's in the shower
right now, shall I have her call you back later?"
"Please if you would, thank you." Margaret felt a little relief but
not as much as she would if Dana was present.
"You know Scully, I really hate lying to your mother," Kennedy
stared at her stone friend. "If I get caught, I'm bringing you down
with me."
Scully just stared at her friend, completely oblivious to what was
being said. "You know when you open your mouth a certain way, words
come out."
Kennedy didn't know what to say. "Okay... interesting theory
Scully, now how are we going to sober you up." She just sat down on
the couch and tapped her fingers on the end table.
"Bang, bang on the door
Knock a little louder baby
Bang, bang on the door
I can't hear you
Bang, bang on the door
Knock a little louder baby"
Scully sang loudly.
"Oh man... now we're into the B-52's." Kennedy sighed. "I'm gonna
go call Paul," she stood. "Stay!" Kennedy pointed to Scully like
she was a dog.
"Stay!
Just a little be longer
Please, please, please
How long are you going to?"
Scully immediately started chanting the Maurice Williams and The
Zodiac's classic.
"This is getting to be too weird." Kennedy wandered into the
kitchen and dialled the number for her roommate. "Hi Paully, it's me, gonna be late, Scully's kinda of
stoned on Haagen Diaz at the current moment. Call me when you get
in, bye."
"Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking in the spiderweb
Leave message and I'll call you back
Unlikely story...
But leave a message
And I'll call you back"
Scully danced around the room chanting No Doubt's hit song,
"Spiderweb."
Kennedy returned to the room, not surprised by Scully's choice of
song but by her movements. "Okay kid, I can understand if this is
your way to relieve stress but enough is enough."
"No matter who calls
I gotta screen my phone calls
It's all your fault"
Scully continued.
"Paging Dr. Scully... is anyone home?" Kennedy moved to in front of
the bouncing red head.
No response.
"Earth to Dana, come in Dana."
Again, she didn't say a word.
"Man, I'm calling Mulder," the Canadian muttered under her breath
as she headed for the nearest phone. "Hey bonus, speed dial."
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
"Okay Kennedy, what do you want?" Mulder asked as he looked at his
watch. "It's two a.m., what now?"
"It's barely the wee morning, why are you asleep?"
"Kennedy!"
"Oh fine, it's really nothing, I just wanted to say that Scully's
high and is chanting your name over and over, in a secductive tone.
But other then that, everything is just peachy," Kennedy laughed
then hung up.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Scully walked around chanting 'Mulder,' enough to make Kennedy
start looking for some tape. "Hey Red, where's the tape?"
"Mulder, Mulder, Mulder, Mulder..."
"All the help you are!" Kennedy gave up asking her dopey friend and
decided to check on her own.
Just as she was about to put a long piece of tape of Scully's
mouth, Kennedy practically jumped out of her skin when Dana's front
door opened suddenly and Mulder walked through it. Judging by his
stance, Kennedy knew that he had been drinking.
"Where is she?"
"Who?"
"Scubby... no Shally... uh Scaley... Scally... what ever her name
is."
"Shit Mulder, don't you know your own partner's name?" Kennedy
teased as she pointed for him to sit down.
"No," he head hung down. "I'm pathetic aren't I?"
"At the present moment, everything is pretty pathetic." Kennedy
collapsed on the couch.
"Why?"
"Here's the recap, Scully got high on chocolate chip ice cream,
you... got drunk and I am so out of it that I'm trying to tape
Scully's mouth shut with medical tape."
Mulder laughed until he began to cry.
"Mulder it what's so funny?"
"I don't know."
Scully walked out of her bedroom. "Kenny, come here," she curled
her index finger toward her.
Kennedy rolled her eyes and walked over to the petite agent. "Yes?"
"Who's the hot guy on my couch?"
"Dana, I'm only going to say this once, but promise me one thing,
do NOT do anything until I am out of this apartment." Scully nodded
as Kennedy grabbed her. "Dana meet Fox, hot guy meet Scally."
The two of them were practically one by the time Kennedy walked out
of the door. "Damn I wish I could make up with Paul that way!"
