*Letting Go* Chapter 23

Jason came to the visitor's room and sat down. He picked up the phone and looked at through the glass at his visitor. "You set me up." he said simply.
Jerry laughed. "I don't know what you're talking about..."
"Tax evasion. That's pretty good. So did you tip the Cassadines off about our arrangement?"
"Maybe. I bet you hate it in here."
"It's okay." Jason said honestly. "At least people don't bother me in here."
"It must be hard running your business though."
"I get by."
"That's only because I allow it."
Jason said nothing. Because he knew it was true.
"I need a favor."
"What?"
"I want Sonny out of Port Charles. I don't care *how* you do it. Just do it."
"What's in it for me?"
"People aren't *bothering* you in here are they? That could change. Besides. You owe me."
"I owe you?"
"I know...I know what you did. And you really shouldn't have done it. Not only did you hurt Jax. You hurt me. And I'm not *nearly* as forgiving as my brother."
Nikolas had told Jason this might happen. But he didn't beleive him. Now he wished he had. One of the few things he learned was not to mess with Jerry Jacks. "Do me this favor, and I may call it even."
Jerry hung up the phone and Jason watched him walk away. A guard came over to lead him back to his cell, but Jason made a request to use the payphone. He had to call Nikolas. And now.

"Brenda. It's not important for me to know what happened to Miranda."
"Jax, it will just eat you up inside if you don't find out. I know you."
Jax looked at her. Brenda came over and sat on his lap. "It won't hurt me if you want to do this. And, we can work on it together. What do you think?"
"I think I love you."
"You *think*?" she playfully smacked him on his chest.
"Brenda, thank you. But I really don't need to know. I have everything I could possibly need." he said this last statement looking directly in her eyes. "Everything else is just trivial."
"How'd I ever get so lucky?" she answered with a smile.
"You must have been *really* good in a past life." Jax said with a laugh before kissing her playfully. "Race you upstairs..." he mumbled against her neck.
Brenda closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Wait here." She hopped off his lap and ran to her room. She came back downstairs and stood in front of him, her hands clasped behind her back. She looked at him nervously as she debated whether she was doing the right thing.
"You know that you can tell me anything." Jax said simply and seriously as he waited.
"I know." Brenda let out a deep breath. He always seemed to know exactly what to say. He knew her better than anyone, because he took the time. And he actually genuinely cared. "I love you." she began.
"Not as much as I love you." he answered automatically.
"That's not true...at least, I don't think it's true. Every single day you take up every single thought that I have. I mean...I just love being with you. I love having you around. And I'm lonely when you're not. Sometimes I just look at you and I think that I was born to love you...that sounds stupid, doesn't it?"
"No." Jax managed to say even though a lump had gathered in his throat.
Brenda continued, "I know I haven't always done the...best thing. And I've made mistakes, and those mistakes not only hurt me but they hurt you as well. And I wish I could promise that I'll never make a mistake again...that I'll never hurt you again. But I can't. But I can promise that I will try my hardest. And now, that my mind isn't so...fuzzy....now that I see things so much clearer, I feel that I can do this. Without jepordizing what we have or hurting you." Brenda walked over and sat on Jax's lap. She took her hands from behind her back and produced an open box. "Jasper Jacks." she said softly "Will you marry me?"
Jax looked down at the ring and up at Brenda. He reached up slowly and touched her face.
"You don't have to answer me now...I know you probably need to think about it...."
"Yes."
"Yes?"
Jax smiled and Brenda's face lit up. "Yes, Brenda Barrett. I will marry you."
