Serenade

by:Alison Sauers

Author's Note: I hope everyone like this story. It's a short one written in a half and hour, but mostly I hope you all like the song. If you don't have it, get the Savage Garden CD. Number three, Truly Madly Deeply, is the best.

Jax and Brenda have been separated for about a month now. She is still confused because of Sonny's manipulation. She wants Jax, but she's scared to give up Sonny.

Brenda laid in her bed thinking about the past few weeks. All the times of seeing Jax on the street, how she wanted to run up and hug him. But there were those times with Sonny that she couldn't handle. She would start talking and somehow ended up completely turned upside down about her feelings. She hated feeling that way.

Brenda sat up in her bed. She knew what she had to do. She wanted Jax and she couldn't risk losing him. She stared at the clock. 2 am. He would be sleeping. This'll just have to wait until morning.

On the other side of town, Jax stared out the window of the penthouse. He didn't know why he stayed there. It was haunted with memories of Brenda. Because you can't let go, he said to himself. Nobody leaves. Jax ran his hand through his hair. He wasn't sure how much more of this he could take. He wanted Brenda. He needed her. But how was he going to get her to see this.

Jax's eyes lit up and sparkled as he began to brainstorm about what to do. He walked over to the desk and pulled out a small black phone book. He dialed a number and waited for the person to pick-up.

"Hi, Darren, it's Jax."

"Hey, buddy", answered the sleepy voice.

"Where are you?", Jax asked.

"At home sleeping. Why?"

"I need your help", Jax replied. He began to tell his plan to Darren.

Brenda rolled over in bed. The clock shined 3:45. Lucy was going to kill her. She a shoot the next morning and she was going to look like crap. But she couldn't stop thinking about Jax. She finally drifted off to a fitful sleep.

The Next Morning

Jax walked over to Darren. "You guys all ready?"

"Yeah", he said. "So who's the special lady that has you calling me at 2 in the morning? She had better be important. I don't get up and give private concerts at this time for just anybody."

Jax laughed at his friends pouty face. "Trust me, she's special. You'll absolutely love her. Just remember, she's mine."

Jax looked down at his watch. It was about 9:15. Brenda would be leaving any minute for her shoot. Luckily Lucy helped out Jax and slipped about the appointment. His phone rang, and he answered it on the first ring.

"Jax here."

"Jax, sir. It's the manager. Mrs. Jacks has just exited the elevator and is heading for the front door."

"Thanks", Jax said as he hung up his phone. "This is it guys."

Darren and his band member Daniel grabbed their instrument and got ready to sing their hearts out. At the sight of the petite brunette, the began to play.

Brenda stopped dead in her tracks. The band Savage Garden was set up right in the middle of the sidewalk and was playing.

I'll be you dream

I'll be you wish I'll be you fantasy

I'll be your hope I'll be your love

Be everything that you need

I'll love you more with every breath

Truly, madly, deeply do

I will be strong I will be faithful

'cause I'm counting on

A new beginning

A reason for living

A deeper meaning

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining

brightly in the velvet sky,

I'll make a wish to send it to heaven

Then make you want to cry

The tears of joy for all the

pleasures in the certainty

That we're surrounded by the

comfort and protection of

The highest powers

In lonely hours

The tears devour you

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me

Oh can you see it baby?

You don't have to close your eyes

'Cause it's standing right here before you

All that you need will surely come

I'll be you dream

I'll be you wish I'll be you fantasy

I'll be your hope I'll be your love

Be everything that you need

I'll love you more with every breath

Truly, madly, deeply do (I love you)

I want to stand with you on a mountain

I want to bathe with you in the sea

I want to lay like this forever

Until the sky falls down on me

As the music faded, Jax came into Brenda's view with a bouquet of pink tulips. Tears were streaming down her face.

"Hey there", Jax said.

Brenda wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Hi", she choked out.

Jax offered the flowers to her, his arms spread wide open. Brenda went to accept the tulips, but instead ended up in Jax's embrace.

"I love you, Jax. I love you so much."

Jax smiled as a his eyes filled with tears. Jax waved at Darren, whom smiled and waved back. Jax hugged Brenda with all his strength.

"I want you to come home, Brenda", Jax asked, his eyes pleading with her.

"I want to come home too", Brenda agreed.

Jax scooped her up into his arms and carried her over to his car. He drove her to her photo shoot and waited while she did it.

"You know Brenda", Lucy said. "You are looking extremely radiant today. I'm sure it has something to do with that gorgeous man over there."

Brenda giggled with joy. "Yes it does Lucy. In fact, you can reach me at the penthouse from now on."

Lucy gave her a friend a hug and a congratulations. Brenda finished changing into her own clothes and ran out to meet Jax. He took her hand and guided her to his car and drove her home.

Brenda and Jax entered the penthouse and walked directly over to the mantle. They both took hold of the yacht that was still there. Their eyes met and as they were about to kiss, they were interrupted by a crashing sound from the kitchen.

A startled Jax and Brenda were greeted by Darren and Daniel ransacking their kitchen.

"Oh, your home. Look do you guys have any food in here?", asked Darren.

Brenda and Jax started laughing thinking about how they never cooked. "No we do not", Jax answered.

"Hello. I'm Brenda", Brenda said introducing herself. "I know that you guys are Savage Garden, but what are you doing in my kitchen?"

Darren walked over and stood next to Jax. His Australian accent became more evident as he spoke. "Jax here called up last night and begged us to come and serenade the woman he loved. We couldn't refuse, seeing as how we wrote the song he wanted."

Brenda's eyes sparkled at Jax. "How come you never told me that you knew these guys? What else are you holding out on me?"

Jax grabbed her and pulled her to him. "If I told you everything, I could never surprise you."

Brenda giggled as Jax kissed her. Suddenly she jerked away and looked at Darren and Daniel.

"Do you guys do weddings?"
