Text on back reads: "Robert Vaughn Learns the Gentle Art of Pint-Pulling". Beer engines are a traditional part of the fixtures and fittings on the bars of English public houses. Using their large handles, the barman pulls up the foaming pints of beer. For some time now, beer engines have had a particular fascination for American actor Robert Vaughn. An engine would, he decided, be just the thing to finish off his new home in Los Angeles. When Robert was filming in England earlier this year he tried to find one, but like so many traditional things, they are becoming rare. Pubs are becoming equipped with gas pressure taps for the beer and the old engines are becoming extinct. Unable to find one, he approached Ind Coope, the brewers. They located one eventually and flew it out to America. There just remained one snag-- Robert had never actually used a beer engine. But the obliging brewery solved the problem for him by inviting him to one of their pubs-- the British Volunteer at Weybridge, Surrey, where, to the surprise of the regulars, he took over the public bar during the lunchtime session. Robert was taught to use the engine and taken down to the cellar to see how the beer was pumped from barrels. Also in the photo is then girlfriend Kathy Ceeton. Dated May 27, 1969.
