Daria Fanfiction: DONT WRECK IT by Riverboy (Scene 1) - The BR bandhouse. Daria and Jane are sitting on a couple of lawn chairs, watching the band play an instrumental piece. They finish. MARK-What do you think? (Daria and Jane begin to say something.) ZACH-An honest opinion would help. (They think for a minute.) DARIA AND JANE-(Together.) Eh... ZACH-I thought so. Hey guys, what do you say we take a break? Weve been practicing for 2 hours. BR-Ok. JANE-Hey Zach, wanna come over to my house? ZACH-Sure. (Daria scowls. He sees this.) Uh, Daria, theres some sodas on the counter in the kitchen, would you mind getting them? DARIA-No...(Sighs, then leaves.) ZACH-Jane Ill catch up to you later. JANE-OK. (She leaves, Zach goes into the kitchen to find Daria looking through cupboards.) DARIA-Are you sure you even have soda? ZACH-Thats not why I called you in here. DARIA-Damn, I was really thiristy, too. ZACH-Feeling a little left out? DARIA-Well...littles not the word for it. ZACH-I'm sorry. Don't think I'm trying to intrude on your relationship. DARIA-And I know you're not. ZACH-What if you two come to our gig tomorrow night, then you could do something afterwards. DARIA-Like dancing on pins and needles? (Zach silently mouths the word "dancing" and grins deviously.) Oh no, what thought did I put in your head ? ZACH-Not now. Later. DARIA-Ok, but until then, seriously, where is that soda? (Zach opens the fridge and takes out a couple of Pepsi's.) I should've known. (Scene 2) - Zach and Daria are walking down the street. DARIA-Come on. ZACH-No. DARIA-Please. ZACH-No. DARIA-This has to be bad, you won't even tell me what it is. ZACH-Depending on your perspective (Looks at her.) ...um... DARIA-I don't know why I'm so curious about this. ZACH-You did drink that Pepsi kind of fast. DARIA-One last time. Finish this sentence, " You want me to... " (Scene 3) - Jane's room. DARIA-Go up on stage and dance? Are you serious? JANE-Excellent. (Daria glares at her.) What? ZACH-Not exactly dancing... more like moshing. DARIA-Last time that happened, I nearly cracked my ribs. ZACH-Yeah, but this time you'll be the only ones on stage. JANE-Excuse us for a moment. (She and Daria walk outside the room.) Come on, this could prove worthwhile for both of us. You'll get to spend time with me... DARIA-...and you'll get to spend time next to Prince Charming. JANE-Exactly. DARIA-(Thinks.) I'll think about it. (Jane's phone rings. Zach answers.) ZACH-Yo. Yeah, she's here. (Holds hand over speaker.) Daria, it's your mom. (She takes the phone.) DARIA-Yeah. (Split-screen with Helen.) HELEN-Daria, why don't you come home for dinner? DARIA-Are we having lasagna again? HELEN-Yes, I know it's getting old, but tomorrow we're going out for dinner, and then to the family workshop. DARIA-Um, we are? Well I had plans to go to a gig with our new neighbors. HELEN-You mean the ones across the street? They're nice boys, but you can see them anytime. DARIA-Actually I sorta promised to help them at the gig. HELEN-Ooh, that's different. Alright, then. Come home soon. Bye! (Hangs up. Daria puts the phone down.) DARIA-I'm in. I have no choice, because of " family workshop. " ZACH-Bummer. JANE-Yeah. DARIA-I don't know whether to thank you or shoot you, Zach. ZACH-Aw, thanks. Anything to help. Come over tomorrow at about 3. I gotta go now. Later, girls. (He leaves.) DARIA-Would this qualify as doing something stupid for a guy? JANE-Oh yeah. DARIA-Where did I go wrong? Don't answer that. (Scene 4) - The next day, around 3 PM. Jane and Daria are standing outside the door to the BR bandhouse. DARIA-Are you sure you want to do this. JANE-Having doubts? Well let me go tell Helen the family workshop is on. DARIA-Nevermind. (She rings the doorbell, Mark answers.) MARK-Hey. Come on in. (They walk in. " Supersattelite " by Our Lady Peace is playing inside. Zach sees them.) ZACH-Oh, hey girls. Sit down at the dining room table, we'll be right with you. (They exit the room and go to a round table with a plain chandelier hanging above. The band joins them shortly thereafter. ) ADAM-OK. Now, the way this is going down is, while we're up on stage, you two will be up there with us, slamdancing. JANE-So, we'll be cheerleaders in other words. ZACH-Sorta, only without the pom-poms, cheesy smiles, and all that "school spirit." DARIA-Rah-rah-sis-boom-bah...humbug. (The rest of them laugh.) MARK-Good one, Daria. JANE-Where is this gig taking place? MIKE-In South Oakwood. We're going home! ALL 4 OF THEM-Yeah! DARIA-How'll you get there? MARK-Fear not, we've enlisted the help of one Trent Lane for that task. JANE-My brother? ZACH-Yep. DARIA-Do we have to learn dance moves? ZACH-No, all you really have to do is jump around and move around the stage, and occasionally sing with us. Can you do that? JANE-Yes. DARIA-(At the same time as Jane.) No. (They look at each other.) MARK-Well, let's see you in action. Daria, you go first. DARIA-No way. JANE-Family workshop! DARIA-Oh, god. (Mutters as she walks to a clear space on the floor.) ZACH-Hold it, gotta put on the right music. (Puts on " Counterfeit " by Limp Bizkit.) Ok, go. (She moves along to the music, but as it picks up, she begins to jump and stomp. Zach stops the music.) Pretty good. JANE-You've got your career cut out for you, now watch me. (Walks to the spot where Daria was.) Music! ( Zach turns on the same song. Jane starts off with a flying kick and starts slamdancing rather hard. Zach stops the music.) ZACH-You've got my approval. (Takes out the CD, puts it in it's case, and gives it to Jane.) Take this upstairs to the listening room. That's were we keep most of our CD players. As for you, Daria, there's another copy of it upstairs, as well as other CD's. It's the first door on the right. MARK-Knock yourselves out. (Daria and Jane go upstairs. They find the room, which has 4 bean bags, 3 CD players, and about 250 CD's.) JANE-This place looks a lot like Trent's listening room. (Putting on a pair of headphones. ) Do you thimk we'll be deaf by the time we're done here? DARIA-Judging by their collections...yes. JANE-To deafness. (Gives her a thumbs up.) DARIA-To deafness. (They each put on a CD. Daria is listening to Rage Against the Machine, while Jane is listening to the Deftones. Cut to about 90 minutes later. A pile of CD's is sitting in front of them. Their eyes are wide open, and they take off their headphones.) JANE-Whoa. DARIA-Yeah. (Scene 5) - Back downstairs. Daria and Jane walk down to find Zach, Mark, and Adam sitting around. DARIA-I feel like I just got liquid metal pumped through my veins. ZACH-Welcome to our world. MIKE-(Offscreen.) Dinner's ready! JANE-Oh, good. What are we having? ZACH-(Playfully.) You wanted to eat, too? Ah, hell we'll feed you anyway. MARK-We're having burgers. JANE-Good. (Scene 6) - The dinner table. All 6 of them are sitting around the table, which is filled with a plate of burgers, bowl of fries, and sodas. ADAM-Dig in. (Everyone takes their food. Daria and Jane begin to eat and stop when they see the 4 boys scarfing down their food.) MIKE-(Mouthfull of food.) What? (Mark smacks him in the head.) MARK-Guys, slow down. We have guests. REST OF BR-Oh. Yeah. Sorry. JANE-Now there's some hungry jocks. DARIA-You should know, you live with one. (Scene 7) - After dinner. Jnae and Daria are listening to the Deftones' "Around the Fur," trying to learn it. One of the band member occasionally chimes in, messing them up. JANE-How do you know all these songs? MARK-Time and practice. DARIA-I'll tell you, musicians have too much time on their hands. ADAM-Ain't it grand? (Zach walks in with a trunk.) ZACH-(Stressed.) OK, guys. (Sets it down, and heaves a relieving sigh.) JANE-What is that? ZACH-(Opening the chest.) Your new threads. DARIA-We dress up too? Super. MARK-(Chiming in.) Hey. It gets pretty hot up there, with the clothes you guys wear, sweat, stench, eww...don't get me started on the toejam. JANE-Then how can we be sure that these things are sanitary. ZACH-(Flirtatiously.) You can't be. You'll have to take your chances. Jane smiles, then begins to go through the clothes. Daria joins in. Fat Boy Slim's "Rockafeller Skank" plays as shots of the two girls trying on clothes roll. Jane decides on her regular V-neck shirt, grey knee-length shorts, her regular boots, while Daria is wearing something similar to her "skater" alter-ego. ) DARIA-Why do I feel like such a tool? JANE-Oh, Daria... (Zach interrupts her.) ZACH-It's about 6:30 now, we'd better call Trent to pick us up. The gig is at 8. ( Scene 8 ) - Trent's car is waiting on the street. All 6 walk out the door, each of them with a duffel bag, and an instrument. TRENT-Hey, guys, ready to--Janey, Daria? You comin' too? ZACH-For one night only, they're the Bad Reception dancers. TRENT-Really? DARIA-Yeah... TRENT-Cool. (Daria smiles a little.) Well, get in. (Daria and Jane get in front, the band piles in back. On the way, the band teaches them a few songs.) (Scene 9) - The venue, called Drew's, which has almost no seats. They get backstage, except for Trent, who's out in the audience. ZACH-(Giving his guitar to Jane.) We'll be back. Watch our instruments, will you? DARIA-(Taking Mark's bass.) Uh, sure. (The boys leave.) JANE-(Strumming Zach's guitar rather dumsily.) Hey, we could be in a band. DARIA-Right. JANE-Think about it. We could be in one of those girl-rage rock bands. DARIA-I wouldn't be here right now if I had a choice, let alone get in a stupid band. JANE-Yeah. But this stupid band would be our creation. DARIA-Sorry, I'm only making a fool out of myself just this once, let alone every night. (A few minutes, and Zach comes out with an oversized, red, long-sleeved shirt, baggy, greenish-grey jeans, black steel-toed boots, and a red and black winter hat. The rest of the band is dressed in regular clothes. ) JANE-What are you... ZACH-I figured since I made you dress up, I'd taste my own medicine. DARIA-What are you talking about? You actually like this. ZACH-Oh well...I needed a reason. (Smiles.) (Scene 10) - The stage. Daria and Jane are watching the band perform a soundcheck, which is 311's "Beautiful Disaster." They finish and go back stage. ZACH-We're going out in 5 minutes. Nervous girls? JANE & DARIA-(Stuttering.) N-no, not at all. ZACH-Yeah, I know there's about 200 people out there. Don't let it get to your head. I'm not going to tell you to picture everyone in their underwear or anything. JANE-Awww...I woulda had fun doing that. (Smiles.) ZACH-I know. Good luck. (He kisses her forehead.) And you too, Daria. (Gives her a brotherly pat on the head.) Ad, I don't feel like playing guitar, can you pick up? ADAM-Sure. MARK-Let's go. (All 6 of them go out on stage. Zach walks up to one of the mics. The place is packed.) ZACH-What's up people? (The crowd roars.) I've got a special treat for you. Tonight, and only tonight, we have the Bad Reception dancers, so give it up for these two over here! (Crowd cheers.) In addition to that, we have a few new songs we're testing, so you're in for a hell of a night. So let's get this son-of-a-bitch underway! (They start out with a cover of the Deftones' "Nosebleed." Daria and Jane keep pace pretty good. BR's set includes covers of Korn's "Blind" and "Clown" as well as BR's songs "When," "Chlorinated," and "Wrong Life", also the Deftones "Mx," which Jane helps him sing, and "7 Words," which Daria and Jane help him out on the "Suck, suck, suck, suck..." parts. Sometime during the song, Zach decides to reach down and touch the crowds hands. Jane does the same, and nearly gets sucked in. Daria follows, and gets sucked in. You see a look of panic shoot across her face. Zach sees this and thinks she's having fun. She get's passed back and forth until she reaches the front again, and the security guys help her back onto the stage. The band finishes the song.) ZACH-(Into the mic.) Goodnight everyone! (All 6 of them walk backstage.) Way to go! JANE-I didn't think you had it in you. DARIA-Mmmm....yeah....whatever...(Walks faster.) (Jane and Zach stop.) JANE-Uh-oh. I think she's pissed. ZACH-Majorly. I think I should be the one to talk to her. JANE-You're a busy man. ZACH-(Taking off his hat.) A musicians work is never done. (Walks off.) (Scene 11) - The front steps of Drew's. Daria is sitting on the steps, head in her hands. Zach walks out. ZACH-Are you alright? DARIA-I'm a little sore, but other than that... ZACH-I'm sorry that happened. I only did this so you and Jane could do something together. DARIA-And so you could get a use out of those damn clothes. ZACH-(Rolls his eyes.) I value you're relationship with Jane. I mean, she and I are in love, and I thank God for that. But what you have with her, I would kill for. You've been given something very special other than an outcast to make cracks with. DARIA-(Thinks.) I guess you're right. ZACH-But you can't say you didn't have fun at least a little. DARIA-Nah. ZACH-Come on. DARIA-No. ZACH-Come on! DARIA-(Sighs.) OK. I did like the rush I got from being pulled into the pit. But that's it! ZACH-Whatever. (Trent comes out.) TRENT-Daria, are you OK? DARIA-Yeah. A little sore, but OK. TRENT-I didn't think you had it in you to get out there. DARIA-Yeah, but one thing. TRENT AND ZACH-What?? DARIA-I'm never doing it again. (Scene 12) - Back in the car. Mark, Daria and Trent are up front. Zach, Jane, Mike, and Adam are in the back. Everyone is sleeping, except for Daria and Trent. Trent keeps falling asleep at the wheel, and Daria keeps kicking him awake. (Scene 13) - Outside the bandhouse. The band members as well as Daria get out of the car and go into their respective houses. Cut to the same shot the next day. (Scene 14) - Inside the bandhouse. A kind of party is going on inside, since there's boxes of pizza and pop bottles everywhere. Everyone is standing around while the Verve Pipe's "Barely (If At All)" plays in the background. Mark, Zach, and Jane are standing around talking. ZACH-Jane, you were good last night. JANE-Awww...you weren't bad yourself. ZACH-It isn't easy you know. MARK-I wish I could've been moving around like that. ZACH-Well, it IS kinda hard to move with a 5 pound bass. (Daria comes over.) DARIA-Jane, want to go over my house for a while? ZACH-You two go ahead, we're going to clean up. JANE-Where's Trent? (Zach points to Trent, who is draped on the couch, sleeping.) MARK-He'll wake up... DARIA-...on Christmas morning. JANE-Well, see you later guys. ZACH-Later. MARK-Yeah. (The two go over and look at Trent. The others join them. A few hours pass, and Trent is still asleep.) ZACH-That's it, I can't take it anymore! (Scene 15) - The Lane's front door. All 4 of them are carrying Trent to the door. Adam rings the doorbell. They prop him up against the door and run away. Jane answers the door, and Trent falls over the threshold. JANE-Oh, look what the stork brought me. THE END
