Daria Fanfiction: EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE
by Mark Hall

(Scene 1) - The BR Bandhouse. Mark is on the phone. He gets off.

ADAM-Who was that dude?

MARK-Oh that was John Ermlick, an old friend of mine when I lived in
Youngwood, PA

ZACH-Youngwood? Cool.

MARK-Yeah. Anyway, they are coming over in a couple of hours. They said it
was important.

ZACH-Wait. They?

MARK-His friends Dave, "Nacho", and Ken are coming too.

ADAM-Well, we better get the place ready for them.

MARK-Yeah. Let's get ready.

(Scene 2) - On the phone. It's a split-screen of Jane and Zach.

ZACH-Hey Jane, you might want to come over later, some friends of Mark are
coming over.

JANE-Sounds cool. Where are they from?

ZACH-Youngwood. A city in Pennsylvaina.

JANE-What time is Mark expecting them?

ZACH-Well I guess about oh 3 or 4. They left town a little earlier. It's
about a four hour drive.

JANE-Yeah about 3:30. Taking traffic into consideration.

ZACH-I never though of that. Well, I guess I'll see you then.

JANE-Yeah, later.

(Scene 3) - The BR Bandhouse at 3:30. BR and Jane are waiting the
arrival of John. Suddenly a red 1998 Firebird pulls into the driveway and
4 people get out.

MARK-Hey John! What's up?

JOHN-Not much Mark. How do you like Dave's new car?

MARK-Ooo a Firebird! Very stylish.

JOHN-Look, we gotta talk later. In private.

MARK-Why, something wrong?

JOHN-No, I may need your help.

MARK-Oh, I almost forgot. This is Adam, Zach, Mike and our friend Jane.

NACHO-Ohh, Jane huh? You a ladies man Mark?

MARK-More Zach than me.

ZACH-Shut up with the reunion and help us.

MARK-All right. Damn it's hard to find good help these days.

JOHN-Yeah, trust me I know.

(Scene 4) - Upstairs in the listening room. John and Mark are talking.
Background music- Silverchair- Abuse Me.

MARK-(Pulling up a chair.) What's this private thing you wanted to talk to
me about, dude?

JOHN-Well, here's the deal. My friends and I are in a band called Avation.
But we have a problem.

MARK-What's that?

JOHN-You know Jonathan Lacoudik?

MARK-Yeah, so what.

JOHN-He was our band's lead singer. But his family moved to Erie. Nacho,
Ken, Dave and I all sound horrible at lead. We were wondering if you could
help us out.

MARK-Well John, I'm sort of in a...

JOHN-Come on Mark. You've got to help us.

MARK-But...well I guess I could lend you guys a hand.

JOHN-Thanks man! You're a pal! (He leaves.)

MARK-Hey, I help them come together as a band. What could go wrong?

(Scene 5)-Downstairs. Mark and Avaition are practicing alone. The rest of
BR are at Jane's. They play the Verve Pipe's "Penny is Poison." Mark takes
lead and everyone else is back-up. Mark then has everyone else try. Their
voices at lead crackle during some notes. After they finish up, Mark heads
toward the kitchen. Zach and Adam are going up the staircase, but stop.

KEN-Man, only you sound good, Mark.

DAVE-Yeah. Want to be the lead singer of Avation?

JOHN-Wrong, Dave; he is the new lead singer. (Zach and Adam look baffled.)

MARK-What!? Well I guess for a couple of days it'll be OK. (Goes upstairs.
Zach and Adam have already rushed up into Zach's room.)

(Scene 6) - Mark's room. He is tuning his guitar. Adam and Zach are
outside his room.

ZACH-Man we have to talk to him.

ADAM-Yeah. He was the one that's been telling us to be more commited and
look what he's done.

ZACH-Yeah. (After a pause.) But we can't just barge in. I think we need
some old-fashioned advice.

ADAM-Cool. But from who?

ZACH-Oh I know a couple of people. You'll see. (Runs down the steps and
out the door.)

(Scene 7) - Daria's house. Jane and Trent are there. Zach and Adam explain
their problem and ask for advice.

ZACH-Guys, you really need to help us.

ADAM-Yeah. He's pissing me to the limit.

TRENT-Mark, ditch you guys? Nah, I doubt it.

DARIA-It didn't happen, Zach.

JANE-Guys, he's serious.

BOTH-Really?

JANE-Yeah. I heard Mark with them whenever I came over. There's a problem,
Zach.

ZACH-What's that?

JANE-They sound great.

ADAM-So?

JANE-If they're that good, Mark may not want to quit.

ZACH-Well, it's time to face the music and turn it off.

TRENT-You mean...

ZACH-Yep. I gotta do all it takes to get my friend back.

ADAM-Right behind you, Zach. (All hear laughing from upstairs.) Who's up there?

DARIA-Oh. Mike came by to tell Quinn something earlier. Come on, I'll get
you guys a soda before you go.

ZACH AND ADAM-Cool.

(Scene 8) - Upstairs. Quinn and Mike are talking.

QUINN-So Mike. How long before our next date. You know I have a hit and
miss schedule.

MIKE-Well, you know I was thinking...

QUINN-Friday's bad, Mike. I'm going out with Jesse.

MIKE-That's what I mean. If you like me, dump the rest of these jerks.

QUINN-These jerks don't mind if we go out. Come on Mikey, I'll get you a
soda.

MIKE-NO! You don't care enough about our relationship. It's not working
out.

QUINN-You're dumping me?

MIKE-Yeah. (Walks over to the door.) See you later, bitch.

(Scene 9) - The sidewalk. Mike walks to the BR bandhouse with a huge smile
on his face. He stops about halfway there.

MIKE-Oh, man, I'm good!

(Scene 10) - He enters the bandhouse only to find Mark and Avation playing
"History" by Bush. He want's to say something, but instead rushes
upstairs.

MARK-Huh. (Music stops.)

JOHN-What's up?

MARK-Did you just hear something?

AVATION-No, why?

MARK-Must've been a...sour note.

KEN-Probably me. I handle a guitar like it was butter or soap. (All
chuckle.)

(Scene 11) - Mike's room. Mike can't believe what he had just saw. He
gathers his thoughts and says to himself...

MIKE-I know it'll hurt, but I gotta tell Zach. (Runs back toward Daria's.)

(Scene 12) - The front door at Daria's. Adam and Zach are about to leave
when Mike runs up to them.

MIKE-Man, guys, do I have some bad news.

ZACH-Not now, Mike; I gotta talk to Mark.

ADAM-Yeah, see ya. (They run toward the bandhouse.)

MIKE-(To Daria.) How did they know?

DARIA-Check them. They might be genuine psychics.

(Scene 13) - Outside the BR bandhouse. Mike catchs up to Adam and Zach.

MIKE-How did you guys find out about Mark??

ZACH-We saw them rehearsing.

MIKE-Well, ain't that a co-winkie-dink.

ZACH-Look, we're going to do this like adults.

(Scene 14) - In Mark's room. Zach is talking noisely to Mark, who is
again tuning his guitar. Background music - Deftones - "Be Quiet and Drive
(Far Away)".

ADAM-(Softly to Mike.) Like adults he says.

MIKE-Tell me about it.

ZACH-(Shouting.) ...and furthermore, you can't just desert us like this.

MARK-Who said I was deserting you guys?

ZACH-Jane said you guys were good and got this crazy idea you would quit
BR.

MARK-What? Lovergirl said that?

ZACH-Shut up, punk!

MARK-Hey, boy! Don't think you're going to come in here and push me
around! (Gives Zach a hard shove into the wall.)

ZACH-I don't take that lightly! (Jumps onto Mark.)

MARK-So this is what you want? (Throws him off.) This is what you'll get!

ADAM-Now, come on, man! (Zach almost retaliates but Mike grabs him.)

MIKE-Calm down, Zach! We don't want this!

MARK-Look, Zach, you're nothing without me!

ZACH-If only that were true.

MARK-OH, well we'll see.

MIKE-NO, Mark!

MARK-Put your money where your mouth is. As for you Mike, Adam, sorry to
do this, but I have no choice.

ADAM-Do what?

MARK-Quit Bad Reception. (Adam and Mike gasp.) Until that LOSER finds out
I'm important, I'm the lead singer of Avation. (Leaves.)

ADAM-Yeah, like adults, Zach. Real smooth.

ZACH-Hey, shut up man!

ADAM-NO! He's more importaint than your blasted vocals! He's the bassist.
Without him, we're nothing but a puzzle with a lost piece.

MIKE-Yeah. (Releases Zach.) Come on Adam, let's get some pizza. (They
leave.)

ZACH-(Shouting.) It's not my fault!!!

(Scene 15) - The pizza place. John and the rest of Avation is holding a
party for Mark becoming an official member. Adam and Mike enter and get a
booth behind them.

MARK-(Holding up a Coke glass.) To a new life as Avation lead singer.

ALL-Cheers!! (Bang glasses and drink.)

MIKE-Sound's like Mark's happy.

ADAM-I can understand why.

MIKE-Yeah, so can I. (They spot Jane and Daria entering.) Look, it's Jane
and Daria. (Signals for them to come over, and they do so.)

JANE-Yo. Where's Zach?

MIKE-Back at the bandhouse. I guess he wasn't hungry.

DARIA-So, how did the talk go?

ADAM-Well, Mark is now an official member of Avation thanks to Zach. But
I guess that's besides the point.

JANE-Thanks to Zach?!

MIKE-Yeah. He did a total 180 during the talk. He turned from a friend
wanting his pal back, to a friend DEMANDING his pal back.

JANE-Oh, boy. Zach has flipped his lid.

MARK-(From behind.) Yo! Hey guys. Didn't see you come in.

JANE-(To Daria.) Time to find out the facts. (To Mark.) So, how did the
talk go?

MARK-Oh, not bad. Until loverboy snapped.

JOHN-(From behind.) Hey Mark, got another round of drinks!

MARK-Oh, OK. (To the gang.) Gotta go.

JANE-Ho boy, Zach's done it this time.

DARIA-Yeah. But aren't you mad he called Zach lover boy?

JANE-Not at the moment. But if Zach's little mean streak continues, I'll
strangle that bastard for lying.

DARIA-So what are you going to do?

JANE-What else? Talk to Zach. If I don't, it could mean the end of Bad
Reception. (Leaves in a rush.)

DARIA-Hey, wait u... Oh well.

MIKE- Sit down Daria. Have some pizza on us.

DARIA-Thanks.

(Scene 16) - Zach's room. Zach is looking out the window when there is a
knock at the door.

ZACH-Come on in. (Jane enters.)

JANE-What's your problem, Zach?

ZACH-Problem? What are you talking about?

JANE-I think you know what I mean Zach: Mark.

ZACH-Well he's the one that joined the other band.

JANE-Yeah, but you forced him out of BR.

ZACH-No I didn't. He made the decision.

JANE-That's not what I heard.

ZACH-Oh?

JANE-Yeah. You weren't nice at all, Zach.

ZACH-Look, Jane, let's forget about Mark. We have each other.

JANE-No! (She walks to the door.) Unlike you, I don't let a friend slide
down the tubes. (Leaves.)

ZACH-Jane! I guess she's right.

(Scene 17) - A few hours later downstairs. Avation is sitting down on a
couch and Mark is in a recliner. Zach has called them together. He enters
the room and begins.

ZACH-Look guys, I have nothing against you, but Mark, we need you back.

MARK-Look Zach, you told me you didn't need me. And now you realize that
you do. Well, all there's left to say is, "I told you so ."

ZACH-Hey man, I don't take crap like this.

MARK-Neither can I stand your mouth.

JOHN-Look, Zach, you did away with him and now you want him back with a
snap of a finger. Well, Mark?

MARK-I'll have to think about this Zach.

ZACH-Don't think. It'll hurt too much.

MARK-I guess that's why you've never thought in your whole life.

ZACH-Look man, I'm not going to take this.

MARK-Then don't. Leave!

ZACH-Fine. If that's the way you want it. (Leaves.)

DAVE-Look, Mark, I guess we've really interupted your friendship with
Zach.

MARK-Well, it's nothing much. Zach sometimes is like that.

DAVE-Oh.

(Scene 18) -Zach's room. Mike and Adam are up there.

MIKE-So how'd it go?

ADAM-Yeah, I got the party stuff.

ZACH-Not good. The jerk rejected my offer. (Mark enters from behind.)

MARK-Hey, if you would get your facts straight you'd actually make some
sense.

ADAM-What do you mean?

MARK-Lying again, Zach? Tell them. You WANT me out. You insulted me before
I could say "Yes".

ZACH-What?!

MARK-If you'd give me a chance I'd surprise you. (Walks toward the door.)
Look, Avation is leaving tomarrow. And if you don't apologize sincerly
until then, so am I. (He leaves.)

MIKE-Zach! Yo bum! Look what you've done!

ADAM-You've thrown away our careers!

ZACH-I...I..

ADAM-(Grabbing Zach's shirt.) If you don't bring him back, and I lose my
best friend in my life, your face is going to become a hood orniment.

MIKE-On our first car.

ZACH- OK. I'll try.

ADAM-(Letting go.) Don't try. Like the commercial goes, " Just Do It! "

ZACH-Fine.

(Scene 19) - Zach's room. He is listing to music while packing. He stops
the music when he hears a faint knock. It's Zach.

ZACH-(Staying outside the room.) Look Mark, I'm sorry for what's been
going on.

MARK-You think I'm stupid? Two minutes after a ask for a sincere apology,
and you think you can pull it off? Ha!

ZACH-But I said...

MARK-No! I'm not just accepting this like it's nothing. (Slams the door in
his face.)

(Scene 20) - The next day. Mark's bags are all downstairs. Zach is feeling
horrible about his actions. He decides to try to talk to Mark one last
time.

ZACH-Mark, stop. I'm really sorry about what's happened the past few days.
But before you say anything, I just want to tell you I'm DEAD serious. I
don't want to lose a friend. And you're probably the best friend I've ever
had.

MARK-Zach....do you really mean that?

ZACH-Yes, every word.

MARK-Zach, this is all I needed to really hear to reconsider. I'm really
surprised you used such a dramatic rendition, but I guess it was because
you ment it.

ZACH-So, are you going to stay?

MARK-Yeah.

(Scene 21) - The front door. Avation is about to leave.

MARK-Well John, it was great to see you, but I can't leave my friends.

JOHN-Well, I can understand that. Hey, next time you should come back home
with your friends.

MARK-I'll do that. (Zach stops dead in his tracks and thinks, "Here we go
again." )

THE END

END MUSIC - The Verve Pipe - "Barely (If At All)".
