THE FIELD WHERE I DIED

A dark day for shippers everywhere, courtesy of Glen Morgan and James Wong, writers of such classic shipper-eps as "Beyond the Sea" and "One Breath." Mulder's soulmate is supposed to be this chick (now deceased) named Melissa (played by the apparently collagen-augmented Kristen Cloke from "Space Above and Beyond"), and Scully was his sergeant and his father in past lives. Hence the 5-strike rating.

MUSINGS OF A CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN

Wonderful, wonderful episode about the CSM's past. This is one of my favorite non-shippy eps ever. However, Mulder does not appear and Scully appears in a clip from the Pilot.

(In a crowded courtroom, Scully runs to Mulder and hugs him fiercely)

Scully goes to jail in this ep for refusing to tell the Senate Subcommittee where Mulder is.

Plenty of MulderAngst, PLUS a scene at the end where he's seated, she's standing, he puts his arm around her and presses his cheek against her stomach!!!!!!!

LEONARD BETTS

Nothing but ScullyAngst. Aired post-Super Bowl because of "discretion advised" warning.

NEVER AGAIN

Originally slated to air post-Super Bowl, but moved up because of its only PG rating, this is another dark moment courtesy of Morgan and Wong and one of their S:AAB actors. This ep is probably the worst of all X-Files!!!! Scully gets a tattoo and has a one-night stand with a psychotic killer, and bitches out Mulder for not getting her a desk.. This was meant to air and therefore occur pre-Leonard Betts, so this was not the result of her cancer scare. Gillian Anderson was also introduced to now-ex-boyfriend Rod Rowlands in this episode, but that's a different story altogether. I am inclined to love Chris Carter in spite of what he did to "Memento Mori" (see below) because he cut out the back-to-the-wall, Scully/Ed sex scene that Gillian and the Wong Brothers filmed. That would have been nauseating to say the least.
S:It's my life.
M:But it's my....[What, Mulder? Your... HEART maybe?????]

MEMENTO MORI

The greatest of shipper eps, following the worst. Tons of UST, MulderAngst and ScullyAngst, PLUS Mulder hugs Scully close and kisses her twice on the forehead, holding her face in his hands. (This was originally a scene where he kissed her all over her face ending with her lips, and was filmed as such, but Carter the Evil One cut it.) Bonus points for kisses and hugs on this one.

Nothing, but what do you expect from an "In the Line of Fire" ripoff????

SYNCHRONY

Chris Carter broke his "no time-travel" promise in this one. But it sucked.

TEMPUS FUGIT

Mulder takes Scully out for drinks on her birthday and buys her a present. There was no reason on Earth why this ep should not have been scheduled to air on Sunday, February 23, which is Scully's actual birthday.

MAX

Nothing much in the way of UST, but Scully has a beautiful monologue, which Gillian Anderson quoted at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

SMALL POTATOES

TONS of UST. Answers the question "given the opportunity, would Scully kiss Mulder?"Apparently if they'd both open up a little and really talk like in this ep, things would be very different.

ZERO SUM

Scully was not in this ep but everything Skinner and Mulder did was for her.

ELEGY

Tension, tears, loads of angst.

DEMONS

MulderAngst, tears, UST. Scully initiates the affection this time, going over to Mulder as he kneels, sobbing, on the floor. She wraps her arms around him and rests her cheek on his back.

GETHSEMANE

Very tense and angsty.
