Many are asking, with all the casting changes in recent weeks on B&B, WHY? SOAP OPERA DIGEST asked Executive Producer/Head Writer Bradley Bell that very question, and he says that the teenage story has been so successful that it takes up most of the show's airtime now. Since he is in a roll, he intends to stick with what has worked. While he has given up a lot of longtime talented people (like Kimberlin Brown (ex-Sheila) and Ian Buchanan (ex-James) among others), he feels that the people he has let go are not rooted in the core families. Now that all the central characters are connected to those core families, he feels the show is stronger for it.

How does TRACEY BREGMAN feel about leaving B&B? She tells SOD that she feels philosophical and isn't really upset. While she had hoped that the new contract she signed in November would lead to more stories, she still feels playing Lauren was a great experience. The character was only meant to last 3 months on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS back in 1983, but it turned into 16 and a half years. Executive Producer/Head Writer Bradley Bell says that she is a great actress and hopes there will be an opportunity for her to stay with the Bell family's soaps, possibly with a return to Y&R (although Y&R spokesmen have said there are no such plans as yet). Tracey agrees that she would consider returning to Y&R if the chance arose, since she feels a great deal of gratitude to Y&R Senior Executive Producer/Co-Creator Bill Bell.

As for PAUL SATTERFIELD (Pierce), he will be staying with the show on a recurring basis, his manager Bill Rogin tells SOD. While Rogin regrets his client being let go, he understands the situation the show is in. Advertisers want younger viewers, and the show can hire three young actors for what they pay people like Paul, Rogin explains; and with B&B only having so much airtime as a half hour show, the show's decision was not unexpected. The net result is, according to Rogin, that there is no bad blood between Paul and the show's producers. Also in the latest SOD, it states that KARIM PRINCE (Raymond), who was released from his contract this week, will remain with B&B on a recurring basis.
