"Positive: A Journey Into AIDS," an "ABC Afterschool Special," chronicled the one-on-one research into HIV and AIDS that Kimberly and her co-star, Michael Sutton, experienced while studying for the roles as HIV-affected teenagers on "General Hospital." The special recently received two Emmy Awards.
Born in Bellflower, California, Kimberly moved around a bit at the beginning. She lived for two years in Huntington Beach, Calif., and then settled for four years in Fresno, where she started grammar school. Then it was a move to La Mirada, where she currently lives, for her continuing education. In 1989 she received a letter from President Bush congratulating her as the recipient of the 1989 Presidential Academic Fitness Award. Along with her singing and dancing studies, she recently graduated high school as a straight-A student.
Kimberly's first professional work came at the age of seven months, when she did a diaper commercial with Juliet Mills. At the age of five, she was dancing in a trade show at the convention center in Las Vegas. She has since danced on television in "Fame," "Solid Gold" and "The People's Choice Awards." On film, she danced in the movie, "Electric Boogaloo: Breakin' 2." Before joining "General Hospital," she appeared in 18 commercials, dancing in all but two of them.
The acting bug actually bit Kimberly after "The People's Choice Awards." In March of 1985 she started taking acting classes and five months later landed the role in "General Hospital." In 1988 she appeared on stage in the Los Angeles production of "Les Miserables," playing Little Cosette. She also appeared in the film, "Purple People Eater."
In 1989 Kimberly won her first daytime Emmy Award for Best Juvenile Performer under the Age of 23 for the 1988-89 season. She was nominated twice again for an Emmy (1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons) as Outstanding Juvenile Female in a Drama Series. In 1994, Kimberly was nominated for her fourth Emmy in the updated Outstanding Younger Actress category, and again in 1995.
Other major awards for the talented actress include three Youth in Film Awards for 1985, '86 and '87, and two Soap Opera Awards for Best Juvenile Performer. Earlier this year, Kimberly received the first-ever Hollywood Reporter YoungStar Award as Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama. Film audiences recognize Kimberly from two notable roles in high-profile feature films: As the daughter of Warren Beatty in "Bugsy" and as Kevin Kline's daughter in "Consenting Adults."
Kimberly has done various recordings as a back-up singer and she has sung in commercials. Her hobbies, besides singing and dancing, are collecting coins, bells and European dolls; listening to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and reggae music; and spending time with friends.
