DOUBT AND FAITH

By Crystal J. King

Do you ever doubt God’s existence? Did anyone actually say no? I’m writing this weeks article on doubt, because doubt is really annoying me at the moment. When I’m arguing about God’s existence with friends, I know I am right. It’s obvious isn’t it? But then later I’m alone and thinking, what if I am wrong? I’d love to say I have never ending faith, but I can’t lie. I hope someone else is out there that knows how this feels. Doubt is scary, but we have to have faith. Take a look at Matthew 14: 22-33 when Jesus walks on water. Peter goes out on the water to Jesus, trusting in him, but when the wind comes he doubts and begins to sink. This is just like us. We trust God when everything is right, but when there are problems we sink and lose faith. But does losing faith mean Jesus won’t be there for us? Of course not. I had always thought, at least in the back of my mind that if I had doubt I wasn’t being a good Christian. Then as I write this I read in my Teen study bible, "Doubts don’t drive Jesus away. He’s there even when doubts come. And you are much too important for Jesus to let you sink." That helps doesn’t it? God didn’t let Peter sink, he helped him back to the surface. God wants us to have faith. We should try to drive away our doubts, but that doesn’t mean we have failed when we doubt.
