About the Webmistress

Nicknames: Sam, Sammie, Sammie girl, Sammie-butt, Sunset Sam
Age: 21
Location: upstate NY

I guess I don't fit into any of the typical stereotypes. I spend my time writing, listening to music, singing, playing the guitar, talking to people online, browsing websites, reading, hanging out at the local coffeehouse, and attending open mic nights. I'm also hopelessly addicted to chocolate and caffeine. I love all kinds of coffee and enjoy trying new coffee drinks.

Musically speaking, the Monkees are my favorite band (they are far, far too maligned...), and I also like the solo work of Michael Nesmith (with a flaming passion), plus Kathleen Wilhoite (check out her CD, Pitch Like a Girl, it's great), They Might Be Giants, Simon & Garfunkel, Brewer & Shipley, Heather Alexander, and a lot of other groups, bands, and singers. Right now I'm obsessively into local artists like Almost Awake, the Bookdrop Bees, and Krysta Dennis.

Book-wise, I adore the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (I've read all the books in it, some more than once). I also like the Hitchhiker's Guide books by Douglas Adams (R.I.P.), and random other authors. I'm not too picky as long as it's good writing, although I have a soft spot for modern British satire (hence the Pratchett obsession). I also have a rather over-the-top obsession with Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter series, but I'm not a very big Potter fan otherwise. Right now, I'm very into Diana Wynne Jones' books, and plan on reading as many of them as I can. (I highly recommend Howl's Moving Castle and the first volume of the Chronicles of Chrestomanci.)

If I had to describe myself, I'd say I was semi-introverted, philosophical, intellectual, weird, hippie, and partly insane. No, not mentally insane...humor-type insane. ;) And I'm not a total hippie, either. I'm not into drugs and that kind of thing. But the clothes, music, and jewelry rule. I tend to dress in the way I feel most comfortable, and act however I believe to be right for the situation I'm in.

I'm currently trying to become known locally as a musician, and have an album out called It Must Be Thursday. I enjoy attending local open mic nights and playing shows at coffeehouses.

And for those of you who are wondering what sparked me to start this webpage...well, around mid-December of 1999 I got this annoying mono-like virus, and one of the only things I could do without falling asleep was to work on the computer. So I decided that it was as good a time as any to start a webpage. And since my original webpage (which no longer exists) wasn't exactly a hubub of activity and there were no really good Pepper Ann fansites out there, I decided to start Pepper Ann World. The rest is history, really. I got into a couple banner exchanges and swapped links with a couple people. After that, PA World basically took off by itself. I'm happy and proud of where it's gone, and I hope that it's got the potential to keep going in the future.

If you wish to contact me (about Pepper Ann or whatever) or learn more about me, here's some stuff that might be helpful:
