This story will take place right after Sonny broke up with Brenda for wearing
a wire. It is now the next day.~
MISTAKES
Chapter 1:
Miquel had found Brenda on the couch at the Gatehouse and she had tears
streaming down her face. She had been crying uncontrollably. Miquel stayed
with her and they fell asleep.
Lois and Ned came back to find Miquel and Brenda on the couch sleeping. Ned
shuts the door and they look at each other. The sound of the door closing woke
Brenda and Miquel up and they sat up.
Brenda looks as if she had been crying all night. Her eyes were tearstained
and she looked like she hadn't slept. Lois rushes over to her and sits next to
her. "Honey, what happened?" Lois asks. Lois had a feeling what it was, but
figured she needed to ask her best friend.
"We're over, Lois. Sonny found the wire on me." Brenda whispers.
"How?" Ned asks.
"I don't know how! He just did." Brenda says with anger.
"Sweetie, what happened?" Lois asks her.
"He knew it was on me. Somebody told him." Brenda says.
"What? That's crazy. Who could've known about it?" Ned asks.

Sonny sat at table trying to concentrate on some books for Luke's but he
couldn't. All he had in his mind was Brenda and how she could have done
something like this to him. He loved her more than anything and she just
turned against him like that.
Stone walks down and sits next to Sonny. He looked at Sonny and could tell
something is wrong. "Did something happen with Brenda? I didn't see her around
this morning." Stone says.
"You won't be seeing her again. She's gone for good. Out of the apartment and
- out of my life." Sonny answers him.
Sonny gets up and goes over to the bar and pours another cup of coffee. Stone
gets up and walks over to him. "What? Did you guys have a fight?" Stone asks.
He didn't understand what was going on.
"I found a wire on her." Sonny replies.
"You what? That can't be. Sonny, she loves you." Stone says.
"Yeah, she loves me. Well, she sure has a funny way of showing it! Was I that
blind, Stone?" Sonny asks.
"No. She *does* love you. I don't get it. Why would she do it?" Stone asks.
"I -- maybe I should talk to her." Stone says.
"NO! Stone, I know your trying to help but this time you just can't. I loved
and trusted her and she betrayed me. There's no getting around that." Sonny
says.
Stone watched him. He could tell that this was tearing him apart. He wanted to
say something but didn't know what to say because he didn't know what was
going on.
The phone rang before he could say anything else. Sonny reached for it and
answered it.
"Luke's." Sonny says.
"Sonny, it's me. How are you doing?" Lily asks.
"Fine. What do I owe the pleasure for this phone call." Sonny says with a
slight smile.
"I need your help. Is there any way you can come to Puerto Rico with me to see
my father? He's sick and I don't want to go alone." Lily says.
"Sure." Sonny answers quickly.
"Great. Maybe this would be good to get away for you anyway." She says.
"I'll see you later this afternoon." Sonny says and they hang up.

Luke comes out of the back room and looks at Sonny sitting on the bar stool
drinkng some coffee. He nods at Stone and Stone excuses himself. "You look
like h*ll, man." Luke says.
"I look better than I feel then." Sonny says.
"That bad, huh?"
"Worse. I just don't get it. How could she do this." Sonny says.
"Some women you just can't trust. Do you think there could be a reason for her
betrayal, Sonny?" Luke asks.
"Yeah, she wanted me put away. She helped them man. There's no excuse. You
know, she told me that I lied to her and that she felt like she had no choice.
That she was protecting me. She said if I didnt' do this to her she would have
never done this to me or that she wouldn't have turned it over to the cops.
She had tha nerve to say she only wanted the truth." Sonny whispers.
"Do you think she was lying?" Luke asks.
"It's what she does best. I don't know. It just doesn't matter anymore. It's
over - it's finished." Sonny says as he stares at the wall.
Chapter 2:
Brenda didn't know who could have told Sonny what was going on but she wanted
to find out. Brenda looked at Lois. "Lois?" Brenda whispers as she sits up.
Lois gets up and paces around the room. "Wa.....it." Lois says as she thinks
intensely.
"What?" Ned asks.
"What if Lily told him." She says.
Brenda couldn't believe what she was hearing. But it made sense. "LILY?"
Brenda yells.
"Why would you say that, Lois?" Miquel asks.
"Well, she was hear the other day and the window was open. Mac just got here
when she left and ....how could she." Lois says.
"That's it! I am going after that b****. I am not going to lose Sonny and
not say anything." Brenda says.
Brenda left so quickly that nobody could stop her. Miquel excused himself and
left the Gatehouse. "I have to go. Ned, stay here so you can be there for
her when she returns." Lois says.
"Where are you going?" Ned asks.
"To see the one who started this whole mess.....I'm going to see Sonny!" Lois
says as she races out the door.

Stone knocks on Robin's door and she lets him in. "Don't you have a
appointment today?" She asks.
"Yeah. I just thought I would stop by. Brenda and Sonny broke up." Stone
tells her.
"What? That's not funny, Stone." Robin says in shock.
"I'm serious. Sonny told me this morning. Robin, did you know she was
planning on wearing a wire?" Stone asks.
"A wire? Brenda wouldn't do that to him. She loves him too much."
"That's what I told him, but I don't think it did any good. What do you say
if we step in?" Stone says.
"What do you mean?" She asks.
"Well, I don't want to go behind Sonny's back like this, but Brenda is the
only woman he's ever really loved. I think it's the same for Brenda. What do
you say if we get them alone? Like if we got them to a deserted place."
Stone says.
"I like it. We'll lock them in there." Robin says with a smile.

Lois barges into Luke's and sees Luke at the bar. "Where's Corinthos." Lois
snaps.
"He's kind of busy at the moment, but I can tell him you stopped by." Luke
answers.
"Nevermind. I will go find him." Lois says.
Lois storms back into the area where the pool table was etc. She opens the
door and Sonny turns around. He's faced with a old friend who he thought
would never go behind his back. He was hurt and didn't want to hear a word
she had to say. "I'm busy."
"Yeah, you sure look like it."
"What do you want, Ceruello?" Sonny asks.
"Do you know what you've done?"
"What I've done? You must have your facts mixed up. This was yours and
Brenda's doing. Don't blame me." Sonny says.
"Corinthos, you better take a better look. You made Brenda doubt the love you
had for her." Lois says.
"What do you mean?" He asks. He knew Lois would give him the truth. And
after what went down he had to know.
"Sit." Lois demands.
Lois and Sonny sit down. "Sonny, you are so brain dead sometimes. You were
and are the most important thing in her life. She wanted to believe that you
weren't lying to her. See, she has been lied to by the people she loved the
most. Men that tell her they love her, but really don't. She wanted it to be
different. She also wanted to help you and keep you safe. Like what you
probably wanted to do for her. When Ned showed her that tape she still wanted
to give you another chance. But you, being the smart one you are, shut her
out again. She needed you to trust her and you didn't. Do you know how that
hurt her? Her love was so strong for you that she was willing to do anything
to keep you safe." Lois says.
"She wore a *wire* Lois. How can I forget that!" Sonny yells.
"Let me tell you something. Do you know how lucky you are to have someone
like Brenda loving you? Huh? The love she gives you is the kind we dreamed
about back in Bensonhurts, remember?" She continues.
"I couldn't forget."
"She loved you so much that she told me that she didn't care if you were in
the mob. All she cared about was that you trusted her and that you were
together. She told me she woud have stood by your side through anything. Do
you know how lucky that makes you? She would do anything for you! WAKE UP!"
Lois yells.
Sonny couldn't believe what Lois was telling him. Brenda really was telling
him the truth. She did this to protect him even though it was a dumb move.
If he would've let her in - maybe this wouldn't be happening. "I don't
believe it!"
"You better because you are going to lose her if you don't get past the hurt
you went through in the past. She's here to help you. Don't make another
stupid mistake." Lois tells him.
"I gotta go. I have to go see her." Sonny says. He gets up and runs out the
door.

Brenda makes her way up to Lily's room. She pounds on the door and Lily comes
to it. "What do you want, Brenda?" Lily says.
"I have to talk to you." Brenda says as she barges through the door.
Lily shuts the door. "I have nothing to say to you."
"You stay away from Sonny and your going to pay for what you've done." Brenda
says.
"No you did this. Now you need to leave. I have to pack and Sonny is going
with me." Lily smirks.
Brenda walks over to her and slaps her. "You B****!" Brenda screams.
Chapter 3:
Lily's face burned after the slap from Brenda. She puts her hand on it while
she looks at Brenda in shock. "What has gotten into you?" She asks.
Brenda shakes her head in fury. "You! You have been trying to break me and
Sonny up from day 1. And I told him, but no he couldn't believe me. He would
rather trust you than trust the woman he supposedly loved." Brenda yells.
"He saw you for the person you are." Lily replies to her and takes her hand
off her face. "Now, I want you to leave. Sonny, will be here any minute."
Lily says. Lily walks over to Brenda and puts her hand on Brenda's arm.
Brenda quickly forces Lily away from her. "I'm going. But you will regret
doing this." Brenda says.
There is a knock on the door and Lily says's come in. The door opens and in
walks Sonny. "Brenda? What are you doing here?"
"Well, I would ask you the same thing but I already know. You two deserve
each other." Brenda says as she storms to the door. Sonny slams the door and
holds it down so she can't get out. "Let go, Sonny. I'm leaving." Brenda
demands.
"Your not going anywhere." Sonny says.

Lois storms into the gatehouse and finds Ned hanging up the phone. "What
happened with Sonny?" Ned asks.
Lois shuts the door. "I tried to talk some sense into him. He can be so
brain dead sometimes." Lois says.
"I could have told you that."
"Enough, Ned. I tied to get him to see how much Brenda really loves him. I
don't know if he listened to me, but I hope he goes ....." Lois starts, but
Ned interrupts her.
Ned couldn't believe this. He had just played a tape to both Lois and Brenda
about Sonny's mob activities and here she was defending Sonny and Brenda's
relationship. "What did you do that for? Have you already forgotten about
his mob ties, Lois?" Ned asks.
"Ashton, I haven't but Brenda loves him and he loves her. They are both
miserable without the other. I don't want them going through the same kind of
pain we did. No matter what ." Lois tells him.
"What is with you spellbound women. How can you just overlook this! Lois,
he's almost gotten you both killed. This is reality." Ned yells.
"Let it go, Ned! You won't understand, so just let it go!" Lois tells him.

Stone thinks about what Robin suggested to him about getting Sonny and Brenda
alone together somewhere. "Let me talk to him again first and if he still
won't listen to reason we will put our plan into action." Stone says.
"All right. Are we still going to hang out tonight or do you work?" Robin
asks.
"I work, but maybe we can do something after. Movie or something?" Stone
suggests.
"Sure. Do you want me to go to your appointment with you? I mean, only if
you want me to." Robin says.
"Sure. I could use some support and g*d knows you are the best support I
have. Well, besides Sonny." Stone says as he gives Robin a soft kiss on her
cheek.
Stone and Robin leave Robin's house and head over to GH for Stone's Doctor's
appointment with Alan and then Kevin.

Brenda turns around in anger and disgust. "Move! You threw me out. You
don't want me anymore, so why don't you just go wherever you and Lily had
planned to go. You might as well forget you ever loved me!" Brenda yells.
Sonny looked at her and knew he had hurt her so much. That by not trusting
her - he could have destroyed any kind of future they could have had together.
"Brenda, it's not what you think."
"Oh, it's not? Well, that isn't how Lily made it seem. Look, your off the
hook. Have a good life. But before I go I want you to know that I did love
you - I loved you with everything I had and it's not my fault that it wasn't
enough for you!" Brenda cries and then races out the door.
"Brenda, wait!" Sonny yells, but Brenda didn't look back she kept on running.
She ran out of Kelly's as fast as she could.
Sonny walked back into Lily's room. "What did you say to her? She was
right.....you did this to break us up! Brenda doesn't act this way for no
good reason. Did you feed her with lies?" Sonny asks Lily.
Lily continues to pack and pretty much ignored his question. "She did this to
you. I have no sympathy for her, Sonny. How can you?" She asks.
"What did you say to her. I want to know right now!" Sonny yells.
Chapter 4:
Lily was confused by Sonny's tone. He had never spoke to her like that since
she's known him. He had always been kind and gentle with her - a total
gentlemen. She closed her suitcase and walked closer to Sonny. "Sonny, I
don't understand. Why are you angry at me when Brenda was the one that
betrayed you? Sonny, she wore the wire - not me." Lily says.
Sonny was so angry. He was angry at her for trying to convince him that
Brenda did this on purpose and that she didn't love him. But most of all he
was angry at himself for believing Lily over Brenda. He would never make that
mistake again. "No, you were the one that betrayed me." He mutters.
"What do you mean? I only was trying to keep you safe. Don't you see what
she's doing?" Lily asks.
"I see that she loves me and that SHE was the one who was trying to keep me
safe. She loves me. Have you been planning this all along?" He asks.
"No. I didn't plan anything."
"I don't have time to sit here and talk about this. I have to go." He says
as he heads towards the door, but stops when Lily touches his arm.
"Where are you going?" She asks.
"You know where."
"Aren't you coming with me?" Lily asks as she removes her arm from Sonny's
arm.
"No. That's what I came here to tell you. I can't go. I need to stay here
and work things out with Brenda and going with you wouldn't be right. I'm
sorry, but I can't." Sonny says as he walks out the door.
"What is it going to take for you to see the real Brenda?" Lily whispers.

Brenda runs to the docks and stops at one of the lightpole's by the bench.
She looks around and notices that she ran to the exact spot that her and Sonny
always came to. This is where they first met. She smiles at how she was so
rude to him and he was all smiles. She remembers the electricity between
them.
*flashback*
S: Let me help you out here.
B: Thank you but I've got it.
S: What's going on here? Are you all right? Can I take..you know, its not a
great neighborhood to be walking by yourself, can I just walk you back to
Kelly's?
B: No thank you.
S: Isn't that where you live?
B: I used to.
S: So where are you going?
B: Look, I just got a lousy parking spot, okay?
S: Well I'll be happy to escort you there.
B: It's really nice of you but I think I'd just rather do it on my own.
S: You're just walking away? Do I sense a little hostility here? What is this
coming from a friend of a friend?
B: To tell you the truth my friends don't find you very friendly.
S: And you let other people make up your mind for you? That surprises me.
B: Well I guess its your day for surprises then, isn't it?
S: So quick to make judgments? All this time and we haven't been properly
introduced, I'm Sonny Corinthos (smiling).
B: And I'm leaving. (they both reach for the same piece of luggage and pick it
up together)
B: Look, I....I have to go, okay?
S: Well it was nice to meet you....what was your name again?
B: (sighs) Sonny takes her hand and holds it gently - music playing - then she
just says "Brenda", drops her hand, picks up her bags and luggage and walks
away.
As she is running up the dock steps Sonny says, "See you later Brenda!"

So many emotions were filling her heart. She missed Sonny, things weren't the
same - not after what happened with Lily. She never thought her and Sonny's
relationship would snowball like this. Brenda loved him with everything in
her and he still couldn't trust her. "How could he think I wanted to send him
to jail? Doesn't he trust my love?" Brenda wonders.

Ned was frustrated with fighting with Lois about Sonny and Brenda. "Explain
it to me. Try me." Ned asks.
"Let me try and say this in a way you might understand. Brenda is someone you
want to see happy no matter what, right?" Lois asks.
"Right, but what does that have to do with Sonny?"
"Sonny is my old time friend and no matter what he does..." Ned tries to
interrupt her, but Lois stops him. "Just listen to me for a change. Sonny is
someone I care so much about and want him to be happy no matter what. Yes, he
lied to us but I think he felt he had no choice. He knew I wouldn't let him
into L&B and Brenda's life if he was involved in what he's involved in. But
Brenda is his heart - he loves her Ned. Can you at least understand that. He
loves her the way you love me." Lois finishes.
"Does he? Does he really? How can you compare the pure love we share to the
destructive love they share?" Ned asks.
"Love is love, Ned. They love each other and I can't seem to see them
miserable. I had to do this."
"What if it doesn't work?" He asks.
"If it doesn't? Then I guess I know I tried. I just can't stand to see
either one of them in pain. I believe they love each other too much." Lois
says.
Ned knows that she loves them both and is only trying to do what she thinks is
best for them. "Come here." Ned says as he holds out his arms for her to
crawl into them. Lois puts her arms around Ned and leans her head on his
shoulder and he holds him close to her. "I'm sorry, Lois." Ned whispers into
her ear and kisses her on the cheek.

Brenda walks over to the edge of the dock and leans over and drops a penny in
and watches the water move when it hits it. She can't see the penny after a
few seconds. The penny, like her life with Sonny has disappeared. A tear
falls to her face and she wipes it off.
She gets up and goes over to where the steps were. She puts her foot on one
of the steps but for some reason she can't get herself to go. She thought it
was funny, but it almost felt like something was forcing her to stay. Like if
she left, she would always regret it.
Brenda turned around and walked back to the lightpole. She leaned against it
and stared out at the water. She watched the water flow lightly. She could
see part of her refection from the light.

Sonny approached the docks and stopped when he saw Brenda leaning against the
lightpole. She looked so beautiful, but she looked sad. Like her heart
ached. He walked down the steps, but didn't take his eyes off of her.
Brenda jumped as she heard footsteps coming towards her. She glanced over and
saw that it was Sonny. She tensed up and closed her eyes for a moment. She
reopened them and knew it was Sonny. She wasn't ready to talk to him. She
walked away and brushed by him.
Sonny grabbed her arm and Brenda looked at his hand wrapped around her arm and
then looked up at him. "Let go of me." She whispers.
"Not until you listen to me."
Brenda shakes his arm off of her and walks right in his face. "No. You made
your choice. You chose Lily. Now you live with it." Brenda says as she
storms away. Brenda runs up the steps.
"DON'T GO! I NEED YOU! PLEASE, I NEED YOU!" Sonny yells.
Brenda hears him, but makes her final step. She wanted to run back to him but
knew that wouldn't help things.
"MARRY ME!" Sonny yells.
Chapter 5:
Brenda stopped dead in her tracks. She couldn't believe he would say that.
Not after what had just gone down between them in the last few days. Not
after - the wire. Brenda took and deep breath and then turned back around and
made her way down the steps and over to where Sonny was standing. "What did
you say?" Brenda whispers.
Sonny could hardly believe it himself that he asked her that, but he had to
hold onto her. He couldn't let his past get in the way of his future with
Brenda. He wasn't about to blow it with what happened to be the best thing in
his life. "I said, Marry me!" He says horsely.
Even though Brenda had heard the words over again she still was having a hard
time believing it. Sonny was asking her to marry her. "How can you ask me
that?" Brenda asks astonished.
"Because I love you and I want to be with you always."
"You threw me out. Do you remember that?" Brenda asks.
"I....it was a mistake. I know that now." Sonny tells her as he moves closer
to her.
Brenda backs away from him. "And that is suppose to make everything better?
What about Lily?" Brenda asks.
"What about her? I was wrong about her, too. I know she was trying to break
up us now. I'm sorry I doubted you." He says.
"Doubted me? It was more like you called me Liar and said I didn't know what
the truth was. Do you remember? Those words ring in my head. How can I just
let that go?" Brenda says back to him.
"I know, I screwed up. But I promise you I'll make it up to you. Baby, I
love you." Sonny says.
"You love me? Well, isn't that great! What is love going to do for us? It
sure isn't going to keep you from lying to me or trusting me. IS IT?" She
yells.
"I did what I thought was best for you. Don't you see I was protecting you.
I didn't want that part of my life to touch you. I wanted to keep you safe."
"Let me ask you something. Why now? Why are you all of a sudden saying you
were wrong now? Not when I begged you or told you I loved you.....why now?"
Brenda asks.
"Lois."
"What about her?" Brenda asks.
"She came to me and talked some sense into me, I guess you could say."
Brenda couldn't believe it. He didn't feel it in his heart that she was
telling him the truth. He had to hear it from someone else. "Your
unbelieveable, do you know that? I pleaded with you to believe me and you
just blew me off. Couldn't you feel it right here. (brenda points to her
heart)." She says.
"I felt it baby. I was afraid to go with my gut feeling. I was just as mad
at myself as I was with you. I was scared. Everything that I've ever loved
and counted on has hurt me. I didn't want to get hurt and most importatntly I
didn't want to hurt you. I wanted you to walk out on me, but when I made you
leave....I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat......I couldn't do anything but
think of you. Your my life, Brenda. Your the best thing in my life." Sonny
says.
"I can't....I can't deal with this right now........it's too much. You hurt
me too much." Brenda says as she turns away.
Sonny runs after her and grabs ahold of her shoulders and turns her around.
Brenda just looks at him. Neither one saying a word.....both just staring in
each other's eyes for a moment. Lost in each other's souls. Sonny finally
reached down and pulled Brenda towards his face and pressed his lips on hers.
He pulled her in for the most passionate kiss. He places his hands on her
face and kisses her deeper.
After what seems like hours Brenda pulls away. Brenda looks down at the
ground and then up at him. "What do you want from me?" Brenda whispers.
"You know what I want."
Brenda walks away from him closer to the lightpole. "What then? What happens
when I do something you can't forgive? All I wanted was to be with you. The
lies and secrets tore us apart. Can you promise me that won't happen again?"
Brenda asks.
"I'll do whatever I can. All I know is I can't live without you. My heart is
empty without you. I've never had this before and I can't let it go. I can't
let you go. I can do anything as long as your with me. I love you." Sonny
whispers.
Tears form in Brenda's eyes as Sonny approaches her. Sonny kneels down on his
knee and takes Brenda's hand in his. "Brenda Barrett, will you marry me?" He
asks.
Brenda laughs and cries at the same time. "Yes! Yes, I'll marry you!"
Brenda cries. Sonny stands up and takes her face in his hands and kisses her.
Sealing their everlasting love. As long as they had their love they could
outstand anything.
Chapter 6:
After what seemed like an eternity Brenda and Sonny pulled away from their
kiss. "I love you, Brenda." Sonny whispers.
Brenda smiled through her tears. "I love you, too." She whispers back.
"Will you come home with me tonight? And tomorrow we'll go ring shopping.
You can pick it out - anything you want." He says with a smile.
"Anything?" She replies with excitement.
"Yeah, anything. I love you more than anything and I'm sorry I didn't trust
in you or our love. I was afraid." Sonny tells her honestly.
"I know. Can we put this behind us and move on with our weddding?"
"For now we can. I never want to come that close to losing you ever again. I
felt like my world was coming apart." He tells her.
"Me, too. I love you so much. I've waited for this for so long." Brenda
tells him.
"We will always be together, I promise. Happily ever after." Sonny promises
her.
"Forever." Brenda whispers. Sonny pulls her back in for another passionate
and hunger filled kiss.

Lily hears a knock at her door. Deep down she was praying that it was Sonny.
She opened the door to find Miquel on the other side of the door.
"Miquel?" Lily says surprised to see him. "What's this about? Why do you
look so upset?" Lily asks.
"You know."
"What?" Lily asks as she lets him in.
"How could you do that to Brenda?" He asks.
"What is it about Brenda, Miquel? You and Sonny both think she could *never*
backstab anyone." Lily tells him.
"Sonny? What are you talking about? He threw her out." Miquel says.
"Brenda came in to see me and so did Sonny. Something must have happened
because he believes her now. That is probably his biggest mistake. She'll
hurt him."
"She won't. If anything - he'll hurt her. Lily, what happened to you?"
Miquel asks.
"I don't know what you mean." She says avoiding answering him.
"Your not the same woman I loved for so many years. This isn't you." Miquel
says.

Sonny and Brenda enter Luke's through the back door. They go up the back
stairs to his apartment. Sonny peeks in the door and sees no one around.
"Stone must be with Robin." Sonny says.
Brenda wraps her arms around his neck and kisses him. Sonny faces her and
kisses her deeply with so much passion. After they pull apart Sonny hugs her
close. "I need you, Brenda." Sonny whispers in her ear.
Brenda back out of his hug. "I need you, too." Brenda says.
Sonny takes ahold of Brenda's hand and leads her into the bedroom and closes
the door.
Brenda starts to unbutton her shirt as she backs up towards the bed. She has
a smile on her face and so does Sonny. He tries to kiss her but she stops
him.
"What?" He asks.
"I'm so happy. You've made me happier than I ever thought I'd be. I love
you, Sonny." Brenda says before kissing him
