Hey, everyone. Yes, I finally broke down and decided to give an award. The award, inspired by Cordy's "You're the Zeppo" remark will be given only to the excellent, yet under-appreciated Buffy fan sites. The little sites that don't get many hits, but have a small, cult following, and webmasters who dedicate their time to make the pages exceptionally well.
I am, unfortunately, having to raise the qualifications a little. I want the award to be challenging to win. After all, there's no point having an award if you give it to everyone. I'm pretty much just giving it to really nice little sites. Anyway, here are the requirements: (and, yes, they are very long because I wanted to be specific. I've been getting way too many submissions that just don't meet the requirments at all)
-You must have a nice, lesser known Buffy site with no porn/links to porn and no excessive vulgarity. (Adult fanfic is acceptable, though)
-It must be nicely designed. This is a pretty loose requirment. Your site doesn't have to have tons of original graphics to be considered a nice looking site. It should, however, be fairly organized and tasteful. In other words, if your whole page is done in severely off-center text this big with a tiled picture of a character over and over in the background that makes the text hard to read, you're probably not going to get the award. I also hate bad spelling and horrible grammar, so if your whole site uses phrases like "U guys should join da Slaya's Club! U ll luv it! Its da bomb!" or has every other word spelled wrong (and I'm not talking minor typos), then please don't submit the site.
-Your site should have a decent amount of content, and it MUST have original content in it somewhere. This is the main reason sites get turned down. I get a lot of submissions that don't meet this at all, so I'm going to go into painful detail, because I hate turning people down:
-Your site must have at least 5 sections, not counting links, guestbooks, or award pages.
-At least 2 sections must boast some sort of original content. This isn't too hard. "Original" includes orignal fanart, fanfic, multimedia, windows utilities, games, and novelty sections (just little quirky section of the site about unconventional aspects of the show.. stuff that makes your site fun). The catch? Taking 3 vignettes and throwing them in a section doesn't count as a fanfic section. The same goes for images; running a photoshop filter over a publicity shot does't count as fanart. Also, taking a few sounds from Sounds of the Slayer and a few images from other people's galleries isn't original multimedia. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh to anyone, but the thing that makes people come back to your site is it's content. If you have a well-rounded site that has some of the obligatory stuff, and some fun sections, then people will come back again. There's really a lot of creative and offbeat stuff you can do (without a lot of hardware and expensive programs), and that's kind of what I wanted to award. There's no point giving awards to sites that have an episode guide, info about the characters, cast bios, image galleries where most of the images are from other sites, and a romance section gushing about Buffy and Angel. There are a thousand sites like that. :)
-Don't plagarize other people's content. It sucks to have your work taken by someone else when they didn't ask permission or even give you credit, and I'm not going to award that. Respect your fellow fans. If your site is one of those sites where everything is basically taken from other sites, don't submit it.
That's it. If you meet those requirements, e-mail me with your name, e-mail address, and site URL.
If you win, I'll e-mail you the code to place on your page...of course, the big, stupid void won't be over the award when you get it. *G*
