About the Author

Geez, I feel a fair bit arrogant, writing about myself, but, since you're reading, I'll assume you want to know...

There's not too much to tell, I don't think. I'm a Portland Native, meaning I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. I got hooked on "Buffy" by a close friend, who *made* me watch the original movie. I expected a horrid trying-to-be-comedic flick with vampires thrown in--I mean, look at the title, "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer"! How campy can you get? But, after watching the thing, I didn't think it was that bad. Certainly, it was campy, but it was also spunky, in its own way.

I saw adds for "Buffy," the show, before it premiered, and decided to give it a chance (I had nothing better to do on Monday nights, after all...). I had serious doubts that it would last very long; it would be "iffy" and flop, just like the movie, right?

Wrong.

So, here I am, two and a half seasons later, writing a web page for a site dedicated to my own humble contribution to the wonderful thing that is "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer," the show. Rock on, Joss!

The Name Story

Some people have asked for the story behind my unusal "pen name:" Salatina. Not many, but enought to justify this ramble about it. :)

It all started in Middle School (Jr. High, whatever you want to call it), at the end of 6th grade, to be pricise. My two closest friends and I had finished most of the required work for the year, and my English teacher decided to unleash us on an independent project, rather than have us hovering around her room (we could be a lot of trouble, when bored). So, it was decided that, to fulfill some of the remaining Social Studies requirements, we would create and film an interview with a "Puerto Rican" about their home country.

At one point, during the interview, we had to produce a map of Puerto Rico. My friends and I set off to work, with an old cardboard box, paint, and quite a bit of imagination. First, the box was flattened and covered in blue paint. Then, the outline of the country was painted over the blue layer, with only one hitch: we didn't have a map of Puerto Rico. One of my friends knew the general shape of the country, so we did all right in the first stage, but none of us had any clue what the river, lake, and city names were in the area: or even where they were. The only thing we knew was the capital, San Juan.

Improvisation. In the hands of the right people, it can be a wonderous and beautiful thing. We were not those right people.

San Juan found its place through an odd game of Pin the Tale on the Donkey. The rivers, lakes and cities were random, chosen on whims and where little areas of blue could be seen from under the green paint. The placenames--now, there, is where my story ties in. The three of us decided to combine and rearrange syllables in our three names to come up with names for this places. Things like: Crisala, Lastinsa, Ralaris, and, our favorite, Salatina. And the name just "stuck."

Yes, I'm done now. You can flee in terror, read my fics, read other people's fics, or e-mail me. Whatever you'd prefer. :)
