The New Kid at Lawndale High: Part 3

"Hello Megan,

How are you? I'm having a great time here at Lawndale. I found my chance to start over. I met a couple of girls, Jane and Daria. I kinda like Daria. Everyone else in the school sucks. Daria's sister, Quinn, tried to make a pass at me, but I thought she was an air head, wich is true.

I have a really interesting history teacher. His eye pops out."

That's when Daria interrupted Jason's letter waiting. "Letter home? And is Megan your old girlfriend?" she asked. Jason looked up. "Yes, it's a letter home. No, she is NOT my girlfriend. There's a couple years difference," Jason said.

Daria sat down at her desk. "So, did you get a message from her?" she asked.

"Yeah. She sent me an E-Mail. I thought I should send her a letter via snail-mail. It would be nice," Jason said.

"Yeah. Did you get your homework for this class done last night? It was tough," Daria said.

"Yeah. I had time, after being in house arrest for the night. They claimed that I was out late these past few nights. But I didn't have any trouble with the homework," Jason said.

Just then, the bell rang. "Alright class, turn in your work," the teacher said, as his right eye popped out.

After class, at lunch, Jason got some food early. "I got something identifiable," he exclaimed.

"It looks like fried chicken."

"I'd hate to disappoint you, Jason, but that's a burger. Again, you were to late," Jane said, eating her salad.

"And I'm sure that's ranch dressing in your salad," Jason said.

"I don't know what it is, but it's good," Jane said.

"I am not going to eat a burger that looks like a chicken leg," Jason said, getting up.

Daria sat down with a soda in her hand. "Try it. It's good. Believe me," she said.

He bit it, whatever it was. "Interesting. Where'd you get the cola, Daria?" Jason asked.

"Out in the halls, there is a vending machine," Jane answered for her.

"Be right back," Jason said, as he walked away.

"Jason was writing a letter home, and said in it that he, and I quote, "kinda likes" me," Daria told Jane.

"I'm back," Jason said, as he walked up with a cola in is hand. "At least I can tell what this is." He cracked open the can and drank from it.

"So, what's up with you, Jason?" Jane asked.

"Nothing much. I got an E-Mail from home. My friend Megan said that everyone misses me. They especially miss my poetry," Jason said.

Daria looked interested. "Poetry? You're a poet?" she asked.

Jason swallowed the burger. "I write whenever I'm inspired. I once wrote a poem after I sneezed. I needed an inspiration, and I got it. I turned it in for a grade, and got a decent grade on that short poem," he said.

"Can we hear it?" Jane asked.

"Later," Jason said. "I'll give you a book of my better poems."

"Cool," Jane said.

Daria edged closer to Jason. "I write stories," she said.

"I've done that. A few of them. One is really bad. It was going to be a short story, but turned out to be 12 pages long," Jason said.

"To much detail?" Jane asked.

"To many events," Jason replied.

Just then, the bell rang. "Time to go to class. What are you two doing after school?" JASON asked.

"I have to go visit some relatives," Jane asked.

"Good luck," Daria said, sarcastically. "I'm not doing much. Want to do something later, Jason?" she asked.

"I'll call you," he said. Then they went to their next classes.

That night, Jason called Daria. "So, I was wondering, do you want to catch a movie tonight?" he asked.

Daria thought. "Are you asking me out on a date?" she asked.

Jason laughed on the other line. "You guess good. Yes, I am. What do you say?"

Daria thought on the other line. "Will this involve a kiss?" she asked.

"Maybe. If you want it to," he said. "So, what do you say? Want to go on a date with me?"

"Sure. Let's get dinner together after the movie," she said "And we'll see about a kiss."

That night at the movies, Jason and Daria saw a romantic movie, about the same old thing. Boy meets girl, they fall desperately in love, and something keeps them from seeing each other. But Jason wasn't watching much of the movie. "Same old story, always with a different ending," he whispered to Daria.

Daria leaned over towards Jason. She whispered back, "The ending will be that the girl's old love will come back, and she will forget about the other boy. Meanwhile, the first boy is getting

jealous over the old boyfriend, and starts a fight with him. The old boyfriend ends up killing

him without mercy, and goes to the girl. The girl hates him, and she kills herself. I read the

book."

"Was it good?" Jason asked her putting his arm around her.

She started to blush. "Better than the movie. I can write a better script from the same book," she

whispered.

"And the critics would love it. Even that one who bashes everything, even his own show," Jason whispered back. "Want to go?"

"Yeah. This movie stinks," Daria said. They got up and left.

They walked over to Jason's car. "This is a wonderful car. How much did you pay for it?" Daria asked him.

"Two hundred dollars. I got it as junk that didn't even run. The final cost, though, over a thousand. But it pay's off. This is one smooth Thunderbird," Jason replied.

"So where are we going for dinner?" Daria asked.

Jason started up the car. "When we first got here, we found a wonderful Italian restaurant. Do you like fettuccini?"
