Mia and Dougie

Mia emerged from the paranormal research division. She had the power of telecoercion, which involved manipulating brain-wave patterns, and interfering with short-term memory formation. Mia worked for psy-ops (where she had met Alec during his six months of observation). Outside of Manticore, Mia was used to "coz[y] up to the big shots, getting them to tell [her] what they know."

Mia was involved with Dougie "Books" Colantonio, an accountant for the Sparacino crime syndicate. Dougie was about to give up his boss to Eyes Only for a guarantee of witness protection and a new identity before he had backed out of the deal. Mia had been trying to get Dougie away from the syndicate since they first met. She used her abilities on Max, Alec and Logan in order to get Dougie into a situation in which he was forced to give up his boss (to cut things short--her scheme involved boxing and betting. That's using 'em Manticore smarts!)

Dougie had narcolepsy, which "makes a person fall asleep for no good reason." This interfered with Mia's telecoercion abilities: "I think that's why I love him so much. He's totally immune to me. [. . .] What fun is being in love if everything's easy?"

Her scheme having worked, Mia took Dougie and the money she had won off of Max's boxing match against Alec and left for Maui--not before giving Max and Logan a little pep talk, however.
