Linford Christie Doping Charges: Case History

5TH AUGUST 1999: UKathletics announce that Linford Christie has tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone, at an indoor meeting in Dortmund on February 9th.  The case is referred to a UKathletics arbitration panel. Linford is suspended pending the panel’s decision. Linford denies the charges.

6TH SEPTEMBER 1999: Linford is cleared of knowingly ingesting nandrolone by the UK:A panel.

7th SEPTEMBER 1999: The world governing body for athletics, the IAAF overturns the UKathletics decision to clear Linford and refer his case to their own arbitration panel.  Linford must prove his innocence once again.

22nd AUGUST 2000: The IAAF arbitration panel finds Linford guilty of a doping offence and suspends him for two years. Linford maintains his innocence.
