Grateful Dead on Tour
The Grateful Dead are known better as a touring live band than as a studio recording band.  The band toured with only a few breaks here and there for 30 years.  They of course are well known for their participation at some of the great concerts of the sixties like the Monterrey Pop Festival and Woodstock and their free concerts in the Bay area.

According to my unofficial count, here is a list of places where the Dead played most frequently:

Oakland (CA) Coliseum Arena      65
The Spectrum, Philadelphia (PA)     52
Madison Square Garden (NY)     52
Nassau Coliseum, Long Island (NY)     43
Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View (CA)     36
Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, Oakland (CA)     34
Winterland Arena, San Francisco (CA)     28
Greek Theatre, Berkeley (CA)     27
Capital Center, Landover (MD)     26
Cal Expo Amphitheatre, Sacramento (CA)     25
The Omni, Atlanta (GA)     24
Boston Garden (MA)     24
Oakland Auditorium (CA)     22
Warfield Theatre, San Francisco (CA)     21
Hampton (VA) Coliseum     21
Red Rocks, Morrison (CO)     20
Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy (WI)     20

Jerry and Bobby playing at Woodstock.  The Dead played a five song set with St. Stephen, Mama Tried, Dark Star, High Time, and Lovelight.  The set lasted almost 1 hour and a quarter  with almost half of it being the last song.  The most famous concert ever was not one of the Dead's better performances, however.
