Topspin occurs when the racket is "on top of" the ball and therefor gives the ball an unpredictible spin and an "up" affect. Usually, a player will use a full backhand grip for topspin. The racket is cocked at almost a right angle to the arm, so when it meets the ball it will be on top of it. The main trick here it to move the toss back to a point just barely inn front of the head so that when the racket plays the ball it will be moving up over the ball, not just over it.
This service is a favorite among athletes for the second service, manly due to the fact that it offers huge margains for error due to the accentuated arc. |
