TE PUNA HEARTLAND INC

During the year we have had a number of people asking, “What do you do?”

Our reply is always ---“PLENTY!”

Look at this list of activities completed or still on-going:-

·        Te Puna Brochure- now out there in motels, Information Centres, cafes, garden centres, B&Bs and wherever there is a need for it. The Te Puna School also puts one in each new family’s pack. Need one? Ring me or Vivien Edwards!

·        Ongoing discussion/meetings with the Te Puna community, Western Bay of Plenty District Council and the Regional Council regarding the Te Puna West sewage issues and the resulting harbour pollution.

·        A website for Te Puna at www.oocities.org/tepuna1. Any feedback/comments/requests to the webmaster, Winsome Griffin at winsome@bopis.co.nz .

·        Discussion over the dangers inherent at the Clarke Rd/SH 1 intersection. Action in the form of a turning bay and an 80kph signage proposed.

·        Meet the Candidates evening. Well attended by those considering their options for WBoPDC or the Regional Council.

·        Discussion and pressure on Transit NZ to reconsider their 80kph/no passing lane proposal between Bethlehem and Omokoroa’s S. H. 1 junction.

·        Submissions to;-

·         Environment BOP regarding the Wairoa River Walkway and a plan for the protection of the Tauranga Harbour.

·        Pirirakau Hapu Environment Management Plan supporting their proposals for protecting the environment –natural and historical—which we all enjoy as Te Puna residents.

·        Establishing a working group to look at the Strategy Plan which the WBoPDC is planning to introduce to the Te Puna/Minden community in July 2005.

·        Discussion with WBoPDC and Transit NZ over the placement of the Te Puna Noticeboard. This is now awaiting the outcome of the Environment Court ruling on the proposed Industrial Park in Te Puna Station Rd, due out in late January.

Another question people ask is, “What are you trying to achieve? What’s your reason for being?”

Our objectives as written into our constitution are:-

·        Promoting awareness and discussion on issues of interest to local people.

·        Representing and supporting people’s views to those who administrate for us:-

Western Bay of Plenty District Council

                  Regional Council

                   Transit NZ

·        Gathering information likely to affect residents and taking any action as a result of this which will benefit us all.

We’d like to hear from you on any issue which you have an interest in. May be we can help.

We’d especially like to work alongside local clubs/organisations to help in any way that we can.

We meet on every third Thursday at 7.30 in the Design Shed, Lochhead Rd.  Meetings are open to any Te Puna/Minden resident.

See you there?
