Maramatanga Park was taken over from the Recreation Trust by the Western Bay District Council in August 1991 and a management committee of residents and users appointed. The park operation is supported by a rating levy on Te Puna, Minden, Whakamarama, Omokoroa and Pahoia ratepayers.

The facilities are an asset to the district and the park covers 10 acres and caters for a wide range of sports. The lounge complex was built in 1986 with the help of volunteer labour and grants.
